Do you like Radish? How do you prepare this vegetable?

Good day to all, It has been long time I started a topic.
Winter started to loosen its grip in the place where I live, days become warmer and sunny though nights are colder.
In winter season, there are lots of leafy vegetables available in our place. It is the season for carrot, cauliflower, green peas, mushroom and radish. I think most of the veggies are available in winter even though the cost is bit high.
Radish and carrots are so cheap at present. I like carrots to eat as raw like a rabbit but for radish, it is hard for me. Not as raw but in cooked form, I don’t like and it was always a disaster if I made it. So I used to avoid buying the same mostly. (I know it has medicinal values if it eats as raw).
Yesterday, I happened to see a video in YouTube, the title clearly says that ‘you don’t like radish but try this you won’t regret’. Out of curiosity I checked it, and it was on some other Indian state language and I could not understand it completely. However, I watched the preparations and followed the same method at home. I am happy to say that the result turned very good and my children demanded more and more. They could not realize what veggie was that.
How all of you are doing? What is the weather in your? What is your favourite vegetable? Do you check and follow cookery channels in YouTube?

@Sreekala I think the taste and smell is too strong for me to mix on anything, the picked one could be served as side dish for meat, fish or sea food in small amounts.

I am doing good. There are many reasons behind my absence here. I hope I will be active here like earlier or I wish to be like that.
Regarding cooking, I know you don't want to cook as your pretty wife prepare everything for you.
How is your children?

I am okay with it. I like it in sambhar and also grated raddish fry. Just grate the raddish , take oil in pan add all the seasoning ingredients after frying add in grated raddish, timato pieces, cook till done then add chilli powder,salt..if you want gravy add little water, cook till done, add coriander in the last.....i don't like to eat raddish pieces so i follow this method..fry will be soft ...

I made it like a chutney. Fry dry red chilly along with black grams and bengal grams (kadala parippu) then keep aside, then take a pan put oil then add finely chopped onion (one) stir it for few minutes then add grated radish in it, then add tamarind (small piece), curry leaves, coriander leaves and finally add some grated coconuts. Then make a paste of all in mixer grinder adding salt. Then add some boiled water then seasoned it.

@prashu228 Yes, the smell will not be strong in this case (as it grated and fry the same in oil)

My niece is almost addicted to cookery channel on TV. And i suffer through some as I am right in the living room. Radish (took me a long time to identify this veggie) was plentiful when we were young. Today I hardly see it although I feel it should be available in the market. We serve it raw (like cucumber)...and I like it.

Yes most of the people are serving this as raw and I agree it has medicinal values. I thought that Radish is familiar to every one, so sorry for making your much time to invest for recognizing the same.
I don't watch cookery channel on TV. But I search item in YouTube, just for a taste difference. Children love to eat when it prepared differently.

@Sreekala We know this veggie as 'Murai' and we planted this as children for home gardening and school project. The harvest was huge and emotionally satisfying.
Never thought to prepare this for children to like it. I must check it out later. I am learning. thanks.

@Gita17112016 Oh 'Murai' I think the name has some similarities as we called 'Mooli' in hindi and 'Mullanki' in our native language (malayalam).
We are learning new things every day in our life. Thank you.

Well....this is just a coincidence that I met you here...In fact after so many years I have come back
to this site! In fact I was searching my old friends here and accidentally I got you here! How are you and your family especially the kids? They must have grown up now!
Well coming to your discussion are you talking about Mooli? If yes then the taste of this vegetable changes with the season and the soil. In winters here in northern parts of India we get radish which tastes almost bland and it acts as a source of fiber...but with the passing of time same thing
tastes too hot in summers in absence of cold environment and lot of water!
I will come back to you once I get confirmation that you are talking about mooli only! Thanks!

I am glad to meet you again here. Honestly I surprised to see your horse walking after a long time. I am fine and yes my children, elder one in 11th and younger is in 5th standard now.
Yes, of course I talked about 'Mooli'. I have no idea about the taste difference in different seasons as I rarely buy it that also in the peak season, almost get it 1Kg for Rs. 5 at present. But I know the season will fade soon and it will be dearer too.

No, I don't follow cookery channels in YouTube or TV. We are having a tiny bit of snow, no accumulation though. I love squash and sweet potatoes, cauliflower&broccoli. Radishes, I love them sliced thin, over a green vegetable salad.

I checked those for making some changes in my every day cooking which I felt is worthy enough. I got many tips which I don't care usually but I realized it really creates much changes in taste. My children also appreciated the different methods.
Glad to know your preference as well. Thank you.

radish is called labanos here and it's usually long and white. we don't use it much, but i know it's added into fish or pork dishes that are stewed and sour (sinigang).
we also have several dialects here, so if a blog or video had text or audio in, say, ilocano, i wouldn't understand it, either. so it's great that we have the internet now people can post step-by-step pictures or make a video.
most of all, i'm glad the kids liked it a lot and didn't recognize it!

I am glad to know the different uses of the same.
It is easy to understand from a video even though we can't understand the language.
Children's reaction if they see I bought radish, why you bought this and younger one winks. They come and check in the kitchen if they get the smell from neighbours (to make sure that I am not preparing the same, lol). However, they enjoyed a lot yesterday night and agreed to take the same to school today along with chappathi (flat bread) I am happy on finding a new recipe for them.
