To be the first in everything

Came across the option of choosing to respond to Discussions with zero responses - either because they are so new and fresh, OR just plain uninteresting or non-relatable, and see how I go without having other people's responses influencing my own opinion. I think it will be much more truthful and sincere. What's funny is if this discussion will also earn no response at all. Oh, lawd. Have you tried finishing a quiz at school without ever peeking at your seatmate's answer too?

Your discussion earned responses. True, it's tempting to peek at other's responses before writing yours but I do so because I don't want to say what others have already said. At school? I have never done so. Thank God this is not school.

Yesss! Thank goodness but you know, some old habits die hard! I sometimes find myself looking at other people's responses whenever I'm finding it hard to put my thoughts into words. Oh and thanks for the response. I feel so much better it didn't yield zero responses.

All the discussions figure in the "Discussions w/ no responses" for at least a few seconds. Never thought about this?

@marlina It is a reality, all the posts are "without responses" the few seconds after you posted, sometimes it takes a few minutes before someone comes to read.

yes i read other people's responses before adding my own, but i still give a truthful and sincere response. sometimes i give a suggestion, sometimes an observation, sometimes i ask a question.

@hereandthere Yes that happens often to me too. Unfortunately, there are topics where I just have nothing to say, or sometimes too sensitive for me to be involved in. So I read along and see what other people have to say.

@Theresaaiza there are discussions i read, along with the responses and comments, but still skip.

I always checked my neighbours' answers at school even if I knew the correct answer myself. I was very good at that. This helped me when I became a teacher!

Well, I guess that's what we would gladly call "double checking".

I rarely read other responses to a discussion before leaving my response....then I scroll down to read how others have responded.

Uh yeah, that's something that I do too. at times I'm just not aware that I am reading other people's responses before I give my own. And somehow it does influence me in a way.

The only time I read others responses before posting mine is if I am not quite clear on what the writer is trying to say.

@hereandthere I suppose it is a case to case basis at the end of the day

true. sometimes you get more clarity from the responses and comments, so sometimes, i end up participating there, instead of posting a separate response.

I do look at this list so I realized that we all have no responses for at least a few seconds especially if we write at an off time.

When I feel sleepy and unable to really make a good response, I do peak most often. Maybe there's just other post that I really have no clue responding sometimes.

Sometimes I would answer those too. And the only time I peak at other comments before commenting is when I don’t want to post a similar comment someone else made.

I always type my response first and then read others' comments. I do this in case I've inadvertently said the same thing as someone else, in which case I change mine.

I often have a look at the zero response discussions or the new user discussions. We were all there once so it's nice to give someone a bit of a leg up, so to speak!! And no, I never peeked!! I was always the one being peeked at

I've been the first to respond on several discussions. I make it a habit of never reading others comments before I reply, unless I don't know what the heck is being discussed!!!

It's nice to be able to really challenge ourselves to come up with an idea that's genuinely ours, uninfluenced by others. And it's good to know that we have helped someone out by making sure they get responses.

I never let someone else's comment influence what I comment about. It doesn't seem fair or truthful to do so. I will occasionally look through the comments after I've responded and find lots of agreement there. There was only one time I cheated on a test. I was in Kindergarten and the consequences were severe for this five year old. I didn't do it again.
