Things You May Not Know About February

I will only be with you a few hours today, but I do not want to miss my appointment with the first day of the month.
February is named after the Roman spring purification Februa.
February is among the most misspelled words in English. In the year 2015, a press release from the White House spelt it (several times) as Feburary.
February is the only month that can be with no full moon. This is the case this year 2018.
Tomorrow, February 2nd, some countries celebrate Candlemas, the United States the Ground Hog Day.
Friday 16th, the Chinese New Year begins. This year is the Year of the Dog.
Do you know interesting February facts or trivia to share?

There is an important event missing : it is my birthday today.
And a part of Asia had the full moon today Feb 1st, due to the difference of time zones (the "blue" moon, i.e. the second full moon during the same month, was not "blue" for everybody).

@LadyDuck - That's funny because my first thought was 'Why didn't she mention Valentine's Day?' Enjoyed this post.

@cmoneyspinner That was the reason, I wanted to mention something that people may not know. Everybody knows about The President Day or St. Valentine's Day.

I never misspelled February, I guess it's because it's the month that I was born.

@toniganzon I made a mistake saying that I misspelled it, as a matter of fact I sometimes make a typo when I type very quickly, but I always notice the mistake.

It is Black history month! Not really trivia, but I always love learning the history of others.

Thanks for sharing this. It's always interesting to know these facts. I'd like to find out how the name of each month came from, so I can tell my children about these. February is always the busy month for me, as we are getting ready for and celebrate Chinese New Year, and my son's birthday is on February too. So I am always busy making something for the kids for Chinese New Year, and making a gift for my son for his birthday. I wanted to tell my children about Candlemas this year, but I didn't prepare for it.

Yes, you forgot the fact that Leap year is celebrated once every 4 years with an extra day in February.

@MarymargII It is celebrated in all European countries as well as in Asia, not only in North America.

Hope you enjoy your day today and the month of February. I've never spelled it incorrectly, since I've always been a fairly good speller.
I remember that before Julius Caesar reformed the calendar, February was the only month that had an even number of 28 days. The other months all ended in the odd numbers of 29 or 31. I knew the other facts you stated except that White House fact.

After so much procrastinating last January, I've decided to begin my New Year's resolution this February. But because we're big on the Chinese New Year, it should be more proper to start on the 16th instead of the first day of this month. Don't you think?

How interesting! Because there is a large Asian community in our area, they celebrate Chinese New Year's here. Some of the events have already started, and they are a lot of fun.

@LadyDuck - That's a great idea! We just had a new Chinese restaurant open in our community a few months ago, and my husband and I love it. We will have to go there next weekend!

You missed Valentine's Day. Also in America we'll be having President's Day as both President Abraham Lincoln and George Washington were born in this month. President Lincoln on the 12th and President Washington on the 22nd. President's Day usually falls between the two birthdays.
