Have any of your hobbies involved real danger?

As I was reading stories about the climber who died on Oregon's Mt. Hood this week, my first thought was "No way I would do anything that dangerous."
I have done non-technical mountain climbing in Glacier Park Montana, but I can think of only one or two instances where a slip would have cost me my life.
There are also grizzly bears up there, but the odds of being eaten by one are pretty low.
Most of my hobbies (cycling, music, woodworking, softball, knife swallowing) are pretty benign, though there's some danger in everything.
Have you ever done anything truly dangerous? I have a friend who tandem parachuted for his 45th birthday. And others who have done some fairly crazy things.
But climbing an 11,000 mountain in the snow is not on my agenda. How about you? Whats the most "dangerous" thing you've done?

"knife swallowing"??? As for me, I'm not a risk taker, although I have changed from an automatic "NO!" to "Why not?" About the riskiest thing I do is when I wear my heels and have to go down stairs.

I am not sure if climbing a mountain covered in snow is considered a dangerous activity but yes, I did it. I also tried paragliding wherein we were gliding through the air using a parachute with a harness strapped on our body as the only protection. It was scary when we took off, but after a few minutes of being on the air, I got bored. haha!

@TheHorse Haha! Not that much though. Sometimes, I have to face my fears by doing the things that I couldn't imagine doing. Thanks for sharing.

Worked as a Go-Go Dancer @TheHorse . Being held at gunpoint and robbed as I was walking to my car after work. Outside of that, my Dad believed I should have been a boy so therefore, I was made to do some dangerous, stupid things. Like swim across the Missouri River at age 11. Upper and lower currents at different speeds not to mention the barges coming at you from the deep side.

Not so much as an adult, mainly because I don`t make time, as a kid I was more of a risk taker but I think it was normal stuff, water skiing, shake boarding down huge paved mountains, hoping no rocks were near, biking, hiking in the woods, camping.
But I don`t think I lived a boring life, I would rather travel see things and people than climb a snow covered mountain.

Kinda sorta. Does being clumsy count as danger? My husband cringes when ever I talk about using one of his power tools.
I accidentally used an electric screwdriver and went through my hand... So it took me a long time to build confidence in using power any tool!
But nope. I do enjoy hiking in mountain and dont carry food etc. So I'm not to concerned about wildlife.

LOL, You! You are why Tony won`t let me use his power tools. Tells me I might hurt myself or cut off my hand.

I went spelunking when I was in college with a group..I don't think that itself was dangerous, but it was rigorous..and we came out on the side of a mountain..I felt like I was going to have a heart attack after all that, and I still had to climb down!

There are people who love challenges and doing extremes. Knife swallowing is dangerous. The most dangerous thing I've done is trying scary rides in amusement parks

I started learning to ski late in life, but, on second thought, abandoned the idea since I was a single parent. That knife swallowing might explain your throat problem. I would give that up after surgery.

Around 1996 we took a party of schoolboys into the backblocks of Thailand near the Myanmar border to lay a water pipe from a hilltop down to their village. We had a British guide with us who tuned into the BBC each evening. There was some trouble in Myanmar and we were likely to be taken out of the area. We did see helicopters not too far away. So I guess the potential for danger was there. We also learnt later that tigers were sometimes seen in the area too.

I don't know, can mountain biking be considered a dangerous hobby? I do try to ride within my limits.

Not a danger kind of person. I have always been scared of heights so I keep myself close to the ground. Come to think of it I did do one thing that could be considered kind of daring. I was a child and my childhood friend who is a year older than me had her father give her the present of a helicopter ride. I was terrified but I went with here. Must have been her 12th my 11th year. I remember riding up high over the Catskill Mountains of New York state. That is about it.

It's so sad that something that you love can eventually end your life. I don't have any dangerous hobbies anymore. I use to swim all the time and that could have killed me I guess.
