What business would you open if...?

Vanny and I were joking around this morning (California time) about businesses we could open up if we wanted to become millionaires or billionaires. It more or less started with my post about clothing manufacturers who sell crap and jack up the prices to make it "trendy."
I suggested that I might sell vintage loudspeakers with bullet holes in them, to make them both vintage and edgy, and asked her what she'd like to sell.
But all of this got me to thinking (before I headed off to a meeting) about what business I would open up if I suddenly had $10,000,000, but HAD to use it to open up a business with the money.
For me, it might be an elite guitar shop, or perhaps a stereo store with only high quality and inexpensive current and vintage gear. I could sand and oil my speakers in a corner of the room while customers listened to my stereo gear.
If Barrister Mbalo Mbalo from Nigeria turned out to be real, and you suddenly had $10,000,000, but were required by the agreement to use the money to open a business, what business would it be?

non-profit fer young'uns who're fixin' to 'age out' 'f the foster care system. a place that'd teach 'em skills, assist with housin'/counselin' 'n whate'er else they'd be needin' to meet their full potential'n life.

Now that is a badly needed business and not one you'll see politicians proposing as a way to save money and produce good citizens.

I've often thought a book store would be nice. Could get a lot of books with that amount of money. But such stores aren't in demand like they used to be. It would have to be something I could do online. Maybe a coffee cup shop. With cute and unique coffee cups.

Leather hand stitched bags and shoes. I would be able to help a lot of people here. Give them jobs and pay them well.

@TheHorse Not sure I'll be able to do that in the future as I'm running not one but three businesses at the moment. One is a corporation, the other one I inherited from my parents, and the other one is a cosmetic shop.

That sounds most excellent! Maybe it will be a reality when you retire from your "bread and butter" jobs. My step-mother opened up a chocolate (she made the chocolate) and ice cream store when she retired from directing the Journals Division of the University of Chicago Press.

I have thought about it and a friend and I have talked about a bookstore cafe. We have also thought about a multi-dealer antique store also with a small cafe. It will never happen but it is a great dream. We did actually share an antique booth together years ago.

@BelleStarr Ah, that's good to know. I don't make it down there that often (assuming you're referring to Orange County).

I would still do online works, because its not easy to open business, and mostly I will save it in the bank for a long term.

@thehorse I'd start an airline running direct flights from Newtownards to Mozambique. Tickets would be on the pricey side and all applicants would have to be vetted by me personally before being given permission to buy. All passengers would be required to undergo an IQ test and would need to go to the toilet before boarding the plane. Rows of seats would be six feet apart and air hostesses would need to be possessed of an abundance of poise, style and grace, would need to speak grammatically correctly without resorting to colloquialisms, and would have perfect seams drawn in black ink down the back of their nylons.

I absolutely know what i would do I would set up a social centre for the elderly to combat loneliness. There are so many elderly people in the world who see no one for weeks on end! OK I may not make any money out of it but the personal satisfaction would far outweigh making me a billionaire let alone a millionaire! So you still geep getting emails from Nigeria. He must be quite industrious!

Who said you can't make money out of it? In fact, @allknowing invited elderly women to cook at her place, so I thought why do we not have elderly people feel they are still useful till they no longer can work. They can supervise ..they don't have to stir the pots, they can send people out to fetch vegetables, and keep the accounts..they are not down and out. Dad is 83 and a half and I know he is still very alert and can do many things and does many things. It seems he will continue to be like this for another 5 to 10 years at least.

@allknowing It is boring to be talking day in and day out for ages. Especially when topics get narrowed down since kids grow up and have their own lives. I think earning is an interesting way to keep them wanting to live some more.
Dad makes me smile when he invests in shares. He bought 20 shares Andhra Bank last week, and 1 share of Eicher Motors at the beginning of this week. He then starts staring at CNBC. lol. Now that they have fallen, he may be concerned, but the loss is not like some casinos, completely wiped out. He wins some and loses some. Keeps him engaged.

@vandana7 Thanks for the mention. My next plan is to find out each one's talent and see if their talents can be put to use.

oh thats easy, i was thinking this exact same dilema the past week.
im really disgusted by the way my small towns main street looks. theres no night life there. or anywhere for people to hang out. so i thought, id combine the best of starbucks, a small burger type of place, and 24/7/365 service. with free wifi. and since i know musicians, a stage somewhere for music or other type of performances.

Mine wouldn't technically be a business. I would love to open up an after school center to give kids a place to hang out and do something positive with their time. Learn different crafts and connect them with the materials to make items for the community.
Like crochet hats, blankets, etc to all other kinds of things different people and communities could use. Quilts for foster kids. you get the idea!

I'd run a business scamming the Nigerian princes who always e-mail me telling me I'm in line for millions. After all, if they seemingly know where the money is, why don't I just defraud THEM?
(Some of this money would obviously be set aside to pay a nice bribe to Barrister Mbalo just in case he's reading this)
