“Money money money money money money money
Some people got to have it
Some people really need it”
A Grammy Hall of Fame song by a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee. The O’Jays were one of the top r&b outfits of the 70s with hits like “Love Train” and “Backstabbers.” Formed in 1958, the group was originally five guys from Canton, Ohio and were a trio (lead singer Eddie Levert, Walter Williams, William Powell) when achieving success.
From the album “Ship Ahoy,” “For the Love of Money” was written by Kenneth Gamble, Leon Huff and Anthony Jackson and inspired by the Bible verse about money being the root of all evil. The 3:42 single charted at Billboard #9. The 7:14 album version is superior. “For the Love of Money” has been covered by Queensryche and Katey Sagal and sampled by Grandmaster Melle Mel and Marky Mark (Walhberg) and the Funky Bunch.

I love The O'Jays. I had no idea that Queensryche covered this.
