This is one of my favourite quotes. The appearance of something is not a reliable indication of its true nature. The quote derives from Williams Shakepeare's play "Merchant of Venice".
Another favourite Shakepeare quote "There is nothing either good or bad, but thinking makes it so."

Shakespeare really does have some great quotes, my husband has several tees that we bought at Shakespeare theaters with great quotes. "There is nothing either good or bad, but thinking makes it so" Hamlet

Yes I like quotes. Although the last quote "There is nothing either good or bad, but thinking makes it so" makes me think that even quotes make me overthink!

@Angela150 For me, The ending quote is about how we put meanings to any words that others created. We all have different way of understanding things and it can be good or bad

@m_audrey6788 Yes that is true. Someone can say something and it can be interpreted in many different ways.

It kind of reminds me of the Devil. He made things appear so attractive to Eve. She fell for it and ruined her life. Many things in this world are made to seem attractive but they only lead to disaster once we get involved. May we not be fooled!

Yes that's true. Things and people can be deceiving.

I get it. A good example of this is looking at a married couple and thinking how happy they look but really they are not happy and will be divorcing.

Yes that's true but I think all marriages take hard work and no marriage is perfect, we all have our ups and downs.
