Critics- How do you deal with them?

There is a story told about a a famous talented songwriter that tried to demean the works of another famous and talented songwriter by labeling his songs as "silly love songs".
What did the second man do? He wrote a song called "Silly Love Songs" and it was a big hit.
What a beautiful way to reply to a critic!
If someone tries to demean or insult what we do or say, why not just ignore it and keep doing what we love? Is another person the judge?
A wise man (Jesus) once said that wisdom is proved my the results and not by critics.
In other words do what you enjoy regardless of what a critic says!
Are you affected by others that might criticize what you love to do? Will you let critics stop you?
How do you respond to critics?
Out of the heart, the mouth speaks. I love you!

"A critic is a person who says how he would do something if he could, but he cannot do it"
I am rather impulsive in such cases and close a person's mouth when he just begins speaking

Good one! Do you think all criticizing is wrong? Let's say a person goes to see a movie and he expresses why he didn't like it. What do you think of that?

@1hopefulman I'm always doing that and saying how it could be made better. Few movies I like 100%.

Glad you haven't met any people that criticize or insult. I like how you would handle any such people that might come your way.

That is so true. When I was young and foolish, I get so affected by critics and they would usually depressed me but at the same time, they helped me improved myself.
These days, I still get hurt by the critics but I don't respond the way I used to when I was younger...childish.

@toniganzon Weird isn't it! Yes, she is still alive but after 15 years of marriage she decided that she had enough of me and cheated. Actually she said that she never loved me and wanted to end our marriage so that I could find someone who cared for me. Go figure?

That is a sign of a wise person, how they react to critics and how they deal with them. Best to use it as an encouragement to become a better person.
When I wanted to become a sales rep and my first wife said that I didn't have what it took to become a success. I got a job as a sales rep and doubled my earnings. Then she used to tell people how her encouragement helped me to be successful.

I see some critics on this site that don't like some discussions and the subjects they discuss. I say that this is a free lot and the choice of subjects is up to the poster and it is our choice whether we read or comment on it.

@1hopefulman that's right. You write what's on your mind. Just skip it if it's not your cup of tea!!

@1hopefulman I agree with you. If you don't like a subject or whatever it's best just to move on to something else.

Hi, overall I'm fine with that but it depend too of "How" it is being said. If it's a critic that can make me do things better I will give it a serious thought.

Yes, we need not always jump and react negatively. Maybe there is something we can use in the criticism?

@saritflor I agree with you dear..we can do better things because of critics.in one way we have to appreciate them..
But over criticism should be ignored...it's depends on the situation matters.

Though I love Paul Mccartney, I wont forgive him for the existence of the song "A day in the life" That song is like a 60's version of Rebbeca Black's Friday.

That song was really two songs, one by John Lennon and then to make it longer they added one by Paul. What didn't you like about it?

Way to go! Do you think all criticism should be ignored? What do you think of constructive criticism?

@DianneN I just thought of it. Thanks for your response. So criticism can also serve a useful purpose.

@1hopefulman You didn't mention constructive criticism. That's different and necessary. It was my job when I had student teachers to observe and students to teach. I found it helpful when I was starting my career. It can be useful if you ask someone for their opinion, too.

Many years ago I heard that if someone stops to kick at every barking dog they will not get anywhere. That can be applied to critics. Use it as a stepping stone and not a stumbling stone.

Very well said about ignoring the criticism. As this quote says sometimes you just have to ignore the critics and do your own thing...

Let them be! We kinda are all critics at one point or another. Their view might fit their personality and taste towards something. That doesn't mean its true, not does it mean it should stop someone.
That soup may be too salty for me.
For another person that soup may be too bland.
Then again, that soup may be just perfect for yet another person!
opinions are not facts!

Exactly!
If the soup is to salty then I had more vegetables.
If it's too bland then I add some salt or seasoning.
If it's perfect, I eat it and thank the cook.

It depends on how the person gonna deliver the criticism. They're many good ways to say criticism on a person it's like giving an advice because you care for the person but there's also mean people who don't care how you feel they're insensitive.

It depends on whether there is any merit to what the person is saying, and whether I care or not about what they have to say.

It has been a long time since my work was criticized by anyone except an editor. I would certainly listen to what they said and decide if it had merit and if it didn't I would ignore them.

Now Paul's laughing to the bank. I never knew how to deal with critics except to say if u don't like it then go some place else, don't read it or whatever. There's somebody that appreciates it!!! Paul handled that well!!!
