Should you accept a sweet or a cookie when offered?

I have noticed that most people don’t like to accept sweets or biscuit when you offer them one. If people offer you something to eat you have to calculate whether they will be offended if you don’t take it or they are just being polite. In my head I feel that if I don’t accept the biscuit or sweet I will offend people and so generally take it and mostly eat it. As long as they are not messy to look at and probably wash their hands after going to the toilet then why not? It’s the decent thing to do, the biscuit protocol. I think it is a hygiene issue if you, or they, don’t accept it so best accept it. It’s not like you turn down a free beer or a glass of wine. You notice in the supermarkets that fruit that is packaged or wrapped in cellophane generally sells quicker as customers have the reassurance that no one else has touched them. It’s a snobbery thing at the end of the day. Supermarkets won’t even accept some fruit and veg from suppliers and farm if it’s a ‘funny shape’ as they know customers are put off. Imagine poverty stricken Africans turning down potatoes shaped like pears?

I usually accept a sweet or biscuit, if the hygienic conditions sounds fine. The strangely shaped fruits or veggies are now sold in our supermarkets at a discount price and I can say that they sell faster than the big beautiful ones at full price.

Of course, if it is from someone I know, I will take it. But if it's a stranger, I will say I am full and is cutting on sweets because my blood sugar is up.

I have to watch my sugar so that would be on my mind before I decide if I could accept one. I do have a sweet tooth btw ;)

I feel you should accept sweets and biscuits when others offer you. There is no harm in it.

If its from someone I know, I take it. But if its from a stranger I don't, I just politely refuse. If its those free taste in the supermarkets, depends if it looks hygienic. But most of the times, I don't try free taste. About those mishapen fruits, I buy them because they cost less than the beautiful ones. So long as they are fresh, I don't care about the shape.

It used to break my heart when I developped an allergy to chocolate, I politely refused and had to explain each time that my face will turn into a prickly pear if I ate the tinyest bit of that horrible deliciousness... Lol

I usually accept what is offered to me, unless I am really not hungry, thirsty or whatever.

To accept or not to accept is our choice, there is nothing to think about id anyone gets offended. I accept if I linke, but if not, then I respectfully deny to take em.

I will not turn down any fruits, why? I wash them anyways! As for the food it all depends on the person, if they are nasty I will not eat it, if I know they are clean with their cooking I will take it. But what most people do not think about is they go to restaurants and the people are not clean people that cook the food. but they will enjoy that meal and pay for it!

I usually accept a sweet because it is the manner. But I almost never buy wrapped fruits, I don't feel that wrapping is needed to enjoy the fruit.

I don't think anyone will not take a bite any sweets unless that person don't usually like sweets... hehehehe... but it depends, if I know that person is giving me a cookies for the sake of "inviting you to eat" out of respect but in reality he is very hungry and the biscuit is not enough for him, I actually don't accept it hahahah.

What about a small open-air repast, in the shade of a straggly acacia tree, accompanied by hot, sweet, mint tea? Refusal of a sweetmeat or spiced meat morsel or goat rib would offend, so you smile, nod politely, lift a piece between thumb and forefinger of your right hand, pop it into your mouth and chew slowly, nodding appreciatively whilst flicking the flies away from your eyes and mouth. Best not to inspect it too closely, it might be an eyeball, they are particularly prized in some sub-Saharan or sub-tropical cultures. It happens.

It would depend very much on who was offering and in what circumstances. If you are visiting friends or family and know they are meticulous with their hygiene then yes I would but if they are unknown probably would be reluctant.

I do accept anything offered to me. No problem about that.
