How about that purple cauiflower?

The American Cancer Society tells that foods of different colors are good for us to eat. I like purple-ish carrots better than the orange ones. These colors contain more nutrients and cancer-fighting antioxidants. Anne came home with purple cauliflower and we had it last night. It tasted a lot like the white, but seemed a Little sweeter to me. Purple foods have something called "anthoscyanins" which make those purple, red and blue colors in fruits and vegetables. I like purple grapes better than green ones (red wine is my favorite too). Lots of berries fall into that purple/red category too. We tried purple pole beans and purple fleshed potatoes last summer too. Do you eat many of these purple/red fruits and veggies? One more "purple" thing; that "Purple People Eater."

We do have the purple cauliflower every now and then . . . but they turn kinda gray when I cook them! There is the orange colored one too. We like red onions (which also turn kinda gray when cooked).

@JamesHxstatic Oh, perhaps I am over cooking them (we usually steam them for about 10 minutes).

Anne steamed this purple one and it stayed very purple. My pics of the cooked part came out too dark.

I prefer red grapes to green. Sometimes the green grapes can be pretty sour. Sometime I am going to buy a red bell pepper and compare its taste to the green or yellow peppers.

@JamesHxstatic So there's a difference when the pepper is colored red or yellow? Interesting.

@sallypup Yes, in fact, a local pepper farmer told me that they are the same peppers, all in different stages of ripeness. That is very strange!

I love the red, yellow and orange. I always avoid the green, indigestion special.

I have seen them in the grocery store, but not tried them. I eat lots of berries, especially blueberries, but not many other things which are purple!

@JamesHxstatic - I did not know that. This information goes along well with the series I am writing about Brain Health. I am going to have to find more purple fruits and veggies to eat!

We have the purple potatoes sometimes but not much else that is purple. The occasional eggplant I guess. It's good to know they're good for you. Perhaps I'll start looking out for more purple foods. I've never seen purple cauliflower.

I usually just buy white cauliflower. I would sometimes get the purple one in my organic produce box and it was fine. Tasted the same as white to me.

@JamesHxstatic Well, red cabbage and purple plum are really tasty. But I try to avoid plum because it has a lot of sugar.
