Slowly coming back...

About a year ago I discovered that I had cancer again. In May I had surgery for lung cancer and three weeks later, in June, I had a bilateral mastectomy. Since I am not a spring chick any more, it really took its toll. They say it takes a full year to recover from major surgery and I believe it.
I started using oxygen in February of last year and am still on it. I hate it and have stormed and ranted about not being able to do the things I want to because of always having to drag this blasted thing along with me... but I give up. It is what it is. Having to deal with oxygen lines and tanks and machines is better than not breathing at all.
Since I can't breathe welll, I can't exercise much and some days just sweeping the floors wears me out. I'm better than I was 6 months ago, though! I am thinking more clearly, moving more freely, sleeping better and... well, I am still alive.
There have been times when I was ready to throw in the towel. Me and the Lord had a few chats that I kind of regretted later, but He understands. If not for His constant support and care, I don't know how I would have made it, but I feel as if I am coming back to life, slowly but surely. Finally.

I was diagnosed with cervical cancer a few years ago. It was also cured through surgery.
Cancer is a frightening thing to have to face.
I wish you all the best in your recovery.

@enlightenedpsych2 I need to call and make an appointment soon.
You know, it takes a lifestyle change and that includes a lot of things, such as the food I eat, exercise, controlling stress and a lot more.

The Lord always understands when we are in pain and we say things we don't mean. He's a very forgiving God and you are right that He truly understands.
I'm glad you are still here and I'm glad you shared this here in mylot.

You wouldn't believe how many times in my life I have been angry at God and have given him a piece of my mind, always regretting those words later. Thankfully, he is a loving and forgiving God, and knows the pain and heartache we go through on a daily basis. He always welcomes us back with loving arms. I'm glad to hear you are slowly getting better, and I hope you continue heading down the path to healing. Keep your faith in God, and keep chugging along with a positive mindset!

Thank you so much. I have ranted at God, too, and a lot of it was just whining and complaining. I called it crying on His shoulder, but He and I both knew better. He is a wonderful God. I know better than before why He is called a Rock and Shelter. He is that and much more.

Like you said. It is what it is. We have to take what comes, do what we can and pray for better days, either in this world or the next. Thanks for updating us on your challenges.

My sister had a mastectomy, chemo and radio therapy around 18 months ago and I know how gruelling it was for her but at least she is well now. You have a lot to put up with but I can see you are a fighter and I admire you for it.

@peavey That was her attitude. I thought she was so brave but it's like you say what choice did she have, it was sink or swim.

I have recently come across many who are battling cancer. In our congregation in one week there was an announcement and prayer requests for about 10 people who were diagnosed with cancer. What amazes me about these people is their spirit. They are real fighters. No doubt you're one of them. A survivor!

So sorry for all that you have been through and are going through. Glad to hear things are improving though. It takes time to emotionally and physically recover from major surgery.
