To go along with all those "big #1 hits," I'm also counting down ten songs that you can hear daily on FM classic rock radio...and yet they haven't worn thin on me. Not yet, anyway. Here's the next song on that list.
#9: Shattered - Rolling Stones
Some people say that 1978's Some Girls was the last "great" Rolling Stones album. I don't know. I do know it's the only Stones album I've ever owned. It was played at both of my first rock concerts, and I enjoyed it, so I bought it.
Back in those days there were only three songs off this entire album that didn't get extensive airplay (the title song, because of the profanity in it; "Lies;" and "When the Whip Comes Down"). Heck, even the country-sounding "Far Away Eyes" got airplay.
Now? "Shattered" and/or "Beast of Burden." If you're lucky.
This piece of snide sarcasm about the "joys" of New York City ("they've got rats on the west side, bed bugs uptown, what a mess!") is classic Stones.
Shattered
Written by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards
Recorded by the Rolling Stones
From Some Girls, 1978

I love this song! None of the classic rock stations in my city ever play it. :-(

That is a great Stones song I never get tired of hearing. "Sha-doobie."

Not a Stones song I would select.

If it's not the last great Stones album, it's definitely close to being so.
