Oh, what a joyful weekend we had! Our son and grandson flew down to visit us in Florida from New York City Friday night. They are now flying back home to New York City. Many of you know how busy we are with all of our many friends. However, nothing in the world is more important to us than our family, especially our two sons and two grandchildren. One of the many, many fun things we did this weekend was rent a fishing boat for 41/2 hours. As you can see, my son and grandson caught a huge 35 pound barracuda that took over 15 minutes to reel in. It was too large to eat, but made for a great trophy. The owner of the boat now has photos of my grandson posing with this barracuda on his website. And to think it came from the waters of our own backyard! I hope your weekend was as fabulous as ours!!!

That barracuda looks rather annoyed - it seems to be saying "throw me back"

You should have seen the teeth on it! He was a fighter. Now he's bait.

@DianneN I read that they are ferocious and will attack and consume even bigger fish than themselves.

Young barracudas are good to eat, I had them in the Bahamas (barracuda fillets). They are dangerous fishes.

@shshiju Yes, they bite, they do not kill, but their teeth can provoke serious lacerations.

I bet it will feel very cold now once they get back home after being in the south. How cool your grandson is on the boats website! What a fun experience for him helping catch that huge fish.

It was used online on the boat owner's website after being entered into a contest and then used for bait. It couldn't be eaten, because it was too large and thus poisonous.

Oh man, I love to eat barracuda . . . I didn't realize there was a size limit for the catch - and that is a big one! What a neat family weekend memory. Yes, I know how family is important to you - it's always a "good" busy!! The weather was lovely here - yesterday we had a nice hike in the mountains!

I never ate barracuda before, but my son had it in the Bahamas and loved it. The fish could cause ciguatera poisoning as could any other reef fish, such as grouper which I love. We were on the go go go. Lol! It's nice to know you had a nice hike in the mountains. We would have done that, too, I'm sure, IF we had mountains here. I am beat!

@DianneN I remember having it when my dad went fishing a lot when I was a kid. Then I didn't have it for years until my friend got one for us on his fishing trip. I'm not sure if I ever had grouper. There's a lot to do out there by you . . . I would be on the go go go trying to do all of it!!! Beat, but a good beat .

@much2say Just returned from taking our sis in law out to dinner. I almost ordered grouper, but still have that barracuda on my mind, so passed on fish. Lol! Yes, there is so much to do here. Just as we were leaving to pick up our sis in law, we got invited to see someone's condo. We looked through it quickly, and it was gorgeous! Now we have an invite to a cocktail party. Lol! The living is easy here. Yes, I'm pooped, but will save my resting for home in less than two weeks.

Is that the same type which likes to munch on us human? (I kept hearing some beautiful women being compared with that sort of fish, so have been a bit curious about the fish itself .)
