You want more colors, more colors you'll get. We are at #9 in my countdown of my favorite bands with a color in their name: the Red Hot Chili Peppers. A punky funk rock band originally called "Tony Flow and the Miraculously Majestic Masters of Mayhem," the Red Hot Chili Peppers formed in Los Angeles in 1983. Despite a good sized amount of turnover (vocalist Anthony Kiedis and bassist Flea have been the band's only constants,) particularly on guitar, the group is still going strong over 30 years later. The Chili Peppers have sold over 80 million records worldwide, have won six Grammy Awards, and own the following Alternative Rock radio records: most #1 singles at 13, most cumulative weeks at #1 (85,) and, with 25, most Top 10 singles on Billboard's Alternative Songs chart. And if that weren't enough, they are in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as well. I guess you could say that they are kind of popular. The band was a large part of the Rock the Vote campaign of 1990, and are passionate advocates for various environmental issues and causes. The Red Hot Chili Peppers have released 11 studio albums, and 44 singles. Basically, they have had a career that only a handful of alternative music bands can rival. Uplift Mofo Party Plan indeed!
