The Forgotten

Homeless,
In the shadows,
Hungry, frightened, sad, desperate.
We choose not to see.
We choose not to act.
But we may be next.
We may end up in the shadows.
And it frightens us.
It terrifies us.
So we remain silent.
We look the other way.
And hope,
One day that we are not next,
As being part of
The Forgotten.

Life's misfortunes can lead anyone into being homeless.

Great poem and so very true. The years I spent on the streets have given me a voice that I now use to advocate for the homeless and impoverished.

People who are homeless and impoverished need to have a voice. They are not going to disappear. They need help.

The core of all religious books is do unto others as you wish them to do to you. In fact, because we choose not to see and not to act, that's what we get.
