When words aren't what they mean anymore

My coworker enthusiastically told me that she went on a marathon yesterday. And I was like, did you win? Do you have muscle pain right now? How many kilometers was it? She gave me the crazy look and said, “I had a movie marathon and watched the ‘Underworld’ series.” K. Rolling eyes.

i also still associate 'marathons' with running but would specifically say 'movie marathon' if i meant that instead. this reminds me, when i hear or read 'dashboard' i automatically see myself sitting in a car.

From my experience in life, marathon is always associated with running, but when people say they watched a movie marathon, they always called it "Movie Night." In general, meanings of words change all the time. Honestly, it's really annoying and sad to me because it feels like life passes by so fast, I don't even know what is what anymore and people get easily offended over any wording when you talk to me, which makes it hard to communicate with the planet.

LOL... I would have thought the same thing. As for movie marathons... I can't sit in one place long enough. I can spread one movie over at least 2 nights lol!!

@sol_cee a few years ago I had HBO for free for a few months. I had taped a lot of movies. I was going to college then so I would watch one movie every Monday before going to class. When I finished college, I decided to keep doing it on Mondays.
