A Good Shower A'int What It Used To Be

Am I the only one out there who thinks the energy savers have gone a little nuts on water pressure? I guess I understand low-flow toilets, although I found the old ones that flowed higher needed to be cleaned less often, and the low flow ones don't over-flow as quickly if they get clogged (there is a bit of a warning, at least), but low flow showers? Forget about it! How the heck am I supposed to get my hair clean under warm (not hot, warm) water, that's barely there?
And don't get me started on tub and shower combinations. Not accessible at all. The management at my apartment came by and installed some nice grab bars. They work pretty well, but there is still a challenge for me getting out, because from the floor to the top of the tub is a higher drop than from the inside of the tub to the top. Also, I can't get my footing, because that sucktioned on bath mat always slips. Thank God for the grab bars, eh? Anyone who says women don't have extra body strength never watched a 250 pound woman support her entire weight with one hnd on a bathroom grab bar. LOL Frankly, if it were up to me, I'd tear the entire thing out, and install a "sensible" shower. A good shower. A steam shower, with a seat in it, and bars; one to grab, and one that serves drinks. LOL If a tub would be a must, I'd consider one of those walk-in's. Those would be great. Benches, higher water levels, jets, and if I felt like standing up, I could install a shower in there. I don't know why no one made those standard years ago.
Sometimes I feel like the "disabled" (God, I hate that word!!) are the only ones with common sense, because we're the ones who have to think about all this stuff.
What do you think?

I hate low-flow showers, for exactly the same reasons you do. However, I prefer a bath to a shower any day. I never feel really clean after a shower - it's too difficult to reach all the "bits." Plus, there's nothing like a long soak in a hot tub on a cold day - or a long soak in a cold tub on a hot day.

If I had one of those high walk-in tubs, or a jacuzzi built into a tile "wall" (you know what I mean) I could actually get INTO the tub, but I only have a regular old apartment tub. If I get in there, I guarantee I'm not getting out again without help from the fire department. LOL Hey! That could be a great way to meet cute ciremen.

@danishcanadian That actually happened to my late ex-husband. He was a paraplegic, but he liked a bath. When we were together he was very independent, and could haul himself in and out of the tub. 7 years after we split up, he had a major heart failure and overnight went from being able to do almost everything for himself to being unable to do anything for himself. Because he had nobody else, I went back as his carer (no other relationship.) Anyway, one day - against my better judgement - he persuaded me to let him get into the bath. Getting him in wasn't too bad, but when it came to getting him out it was a different story all together. He was a big man, and slippery with soap. There was no way I was going to be able to manhandle him out. We ended up calling the ambulance, who in turn called the fire brigade, who in turn called the police. It took about 4 of them to get him out. Needless to say, that was his last ever bath!

Seems to me the powers-that-be are trying to save the environment by depriving us of hot showers. I think there have to be better ways to save water. I want clean hair, and that takes water pressure. Also, there are some things that need water pressure in order to go down a toilet. I'm talking biological things, here. LOL

Now that you mention it, it did seem the old toilets stayed clean longer. Huh!
But I agree with @lynnief - I prefer baths for the same reasons.
As for those step-in tubs, I haven't seen any that had a bit of a slant to the back... I like to relax in a tub and sitting bolt upright just doesn't do it for me.

That is an excellent point about the slant in the tub. Had not thought of that, because I haven't taken a bath in a decade! LOL That sounds funny, but you know what I mean. I shower frequently. As for the old toilets, when they're not low flow, and low pressure, the gunk is going to come off the inside better. Self cleaning toilets! LOL

I agree with you wholeheartedly. I especially dislike low flush toilets.
