Do you search before posting a new discussion?

I don't think many people search but I don't want to post the same as someone else.

I recently went into the old ones. There's not much you can post that hasn't already been covered in the past,

That's true.a as long as it's all our own work.

I don't think ideas can be plagiarized. It is your treatment of the ideas that make it original. Most titles are not copyrightable either but some are trademarked.

I just search the title of what I am planning to write to make sure no one has done it recently. If you search full text discussions it will bring any discussion up.

@akalinus Not many. I've searched for a few of mine that didn't bring up anything but the MyLot discussions have been covered over and over.

Oh yes I understand. I would never copy the work of another person but I like to check and see if there have been any similar titles to mine. Sometimes there is but if it's way back in the archives I will bring up the topic again only express it in my own way.

@Bluedoll Yes that's exactly it. Some forums will delete posts if they have been covered before although on a site this size it would be impractical to keep track of all the repetition. I doubt there would be much plagiarism here because people tend to write their own thoughts down.

@sprite1950 I understand where you are coming from as well. If I am correct here to say that many forums and that is what this is really a forum asks people to search topics first before posting. I've seen it a lot on technical forums where questions and discussions are being covered about each part of for instance a software package or game issue. Just not sure how well that kind of format works on this kind of site being what it is. In any case, copy is copy but certainly one newspaper couldn't be accused of copying a story because another newspaper printed it first. Writing about the same topic is one of those grey areas perhaps?

I have been doing a search but usually the topics similar to mine are very old

@sprite1950 It's ok if they similar as long as if yours and i think no problem with that.

Yours are usually personal to you so you don't need to search

@sprite1950 I don't mind it if someone else's post coincidentally is similar to mine, as most of us add our personal touch.

It's acceptable here but on some sites if someone posts a thread that has already been discussed it can be deleted.

Same as me. If you search through old discussions there isn't much that hasn't already been covered in the past

@sprite1950 I seems as thought everything that can be written about has been written about. The difference being the writers point of view.

My ideas usually pop into my head when I am ready to sleep and then in the morning I have forgotten!

@sprite1950 On Saturdays I cannot be on the computer because it is our Jewish Sabbath and I also come up with ideas and then since I cannot write them down I also forget them.

I started a discussion almost identical to another member a few days ago. We both got the idea from another forum we belong to. I apologised though and he didn't mind.

@porwest It did make me feel a little guilty and I didn't want him to think I had done it deliberately but looking back it wasn't a big deal.

@sprite1950 I think I know who you are referring to. I think it is quite possible there will be similar posts on a site like this. No harm, no foul in my opinion.

I love that about MyLot, the way we can go into a conversation which develops into different topics.

Well I suppose many of the people who were around then have gone so it's like a new discussion to the people who are here now.

Like most people here I think,

I think those are probably the best things to write about because they will be truly unique.
