There are four types of universal blood groups present in human beings.
This is irrespective of color, sex, country, race, caste and creed!
We must know our blood group so that we can receive or donate the blood in case of emergency to save a life!
Do you know, what are the basic blood groups?
Do you know your own blood group?
Have you recorded it somewhere, so that people may know about it in case of emergency to help you out?
Please respond …your response will be highly appreciated! Thanks!

You too and I think to have your blood group on a medal of some kind that you can carry with you is a blessing also as you never know if you might need it.

I'm A negative and so is my son, I only know our blood types because we're rhesus negative and that's a risk factor during pregnancy. Thankfully with him being rhesus negative as well it meant there was no risk

Yes, that is very true...You have been lucky to have him with Rh -ve blood! But then today with many facilities available these things are not that serious now as used to be in the past! Thanks for sharing an interesting and important information here @LilyBeBack ! Stay blessed!

@AKRao24 As far as I know, when the mother is rhesus negative and the baby isn't, there's no risk to the first child but the first pregnancy causes the mother to produce antibodies during subsequent pregnancies and that's when there's a risk to the next baby. However they just have to give the pregnant mother and the new baby anti-D injections to prevent it happening

@LadyDuck , I am sorry it is 'O' negative , and that is not common but it is rare group! You will have to get another 'O' negative donor to have blood! But You have Universal donor blood group, that means you can donate blood to any one with any blood group! Thanks!

Yes I know mine. It is on birth certificates in the US.
You really don't need to know it, though. If you needed a transfusion or if you wanted to donate blood, they would just type your blood at that time. Think about it--people could lie or be mistaken about what they think theirs is. No medical professional is just going to trust what someone says. "Oh you say you are A-negative? Well here's 2 pints of A-negative then!" Yeah, no way. That would never happen.

I am a Vet and i can understand what you want to say! If we know our blood group we can have a list of friends or relatives in a list who can be of our help in case of emergency as most of the times Blood Banks may not have the required blood groups readily available. Thanks @NJChicaa!

Nope, my mom doesn't know her's either. Which is kind of scary that we don't know it. They used to test it in schools, but don't do that anymore.

I am really feeling sorry to know that you don't know your blood group and also your mom's too! This is an important issue and you can't be casual about it! We must know our blood group and document it some where which is easily accessible in case of emergency like on Identity Card or driving License! In case of emergency it becomes easier to treat a person if blood group is known...as it prevents the wastage of precious moments at that time! Thanks a lot @DesirousDreamer! Please think coolly and seriously about it what has been said here! Stay blessed!

@AKRao24 I already know this. It isn't my fault I don't know it. I don't have the money to get it tested either. It should be something on birth certificates but it is not.

@DesirousDreamer ,Is it very expensive to get it done? Here in our country Government Hospitals do it free of cost! And there are many blood donation camps held on regular basis where the organizers get this test for free! Thanks!

@YrNemo , I will definitely go through the article! But without going through the article I feel these types of opinions about the people they simply sounds biased and unfair! The nature has its own way of making the things balanced, it must have balanced every individual with traits associated with the blood group in case if they really exist! Thanks for the informative response!

@AKRao24 I read quite a few articles about it after watching a certain South Korean movie. Seems as some could be quite paranoid about this, to the extent that if the applicants for certain jobs happened to be of a certain blood group (B or something), then they wouldn't have a chance. Similar thing when girls or boys search for their Mr or Miss Right (partner!). If my memory serves me right, O and A seem to be considered as givers, generous, B are takers, etc. (I thought the whole thing is unfair, yet I have begun to notice people's blood group and try to analyze if that belief is true.)
If you read that wiki article, do let me know your view re; this sort of prejudice. (I am a A something, too complicated to remember!)

There is nothing to feel embarrassed , if you don't know about your blood group as you have never felt the need so far! However I think it takes a couple of minutes to get it done at any blood bank, if you are interested ! Thanks @Starmaiden ! Have a great time!
