What's your stance on feminism?

So today I had an argument with some of my friends who I suppose are not much fond of feminism. According to them, feminism means to only care about female benefits and not care for another gender. "Feminists don't care if men's rights get abused." One of my friends said. According to another, "Feminists expect men to open the gates for them and pay the bills on a date because it's in their favor and whenever they fail to get special treatment, they go berserk shouting 'GENDER EQUALITY'". I completely disagree with them. I don't take feminism as such but many people in my society do, and I'm tired of having arguments every now and then. So, Let's hear your stance on feminism. What will you say as a counter-argument to such people? Do share!

As a woman I am not against feminism, but I myself am not a feminist. I know some feminists and they really drive the nail into the heads of men. Especially when it comes to equality in the workplace. I believe that a persons salary should be based on their experience, skill and professionalism be they male or female. Breaking the stereotypes is a challenge for both men and women, and women will receive due respect when they have broken through the stereotypes and earn their place or position in a dominantly male workplace. Men need to accept and respect that women are willing to try, and then make those opportunities available to them. Life is not meant to be a competition to see who is the stronger or weaker gender. It was meant for everyone to live and work together as a unit with each making priceless contributions to the betterment of humanity. :-)

If people would just be decent with one another and respect each other, there would be no need for feminism or any other.

I would just say that feminism is about equal rights, equal pay, and respectful treatment, and leave it at that.

Feminism sometimes can be exaggerated. But I agree that we are equal. That's what feminism says.

I do not usually join people who are not willing to listen to the views of others. Feminism is not about women, it is simply to put equality to both genders who have equal rights and privileges.

Exactly we can keep it to that instead of dragging it to the ideology and all that complicated stuff.

I think your friends confuses a Mysandrist from a Feminist. A real feminist also fights for the rights of the men because they want complete equality. Misandrist disguises as a feminist to show the world how much they hate men and how men are evil.
