I miss painting, have not done it for more than a decade, perhaps mylot friends would be interested to see what I did
I use to paint but sort of lost time to do it, I painted in the realism genre, the ones in the picture are game fowls that I painted, oh wait, before animal rights people start reacting, cock fighting is a National pastime in my country, but I won't go into that, I simply want to show my less serious work done in pastel ( my more serious works were always done in oil paint. So pastel is just basically chalk, and where I finished the fine lines with colored pencil.
Like I mentioned I paint realist style, that is I paint what I see with much emphasis on detail , so let's say I paint denim pants, I do not just paint it blue but I have to paint every crease conforming to where the sun is at or perhaps every thread lol! , but its not as hard as it seems since I use a technique that in French is called "Trompe-l'œil" or fooling the eye, similar to how magicians fools us.
I am not a close realist cause once I did portrait painting and I never wanted to paint every pore , freckle or eye bag especially with the ladies so I tend to romanticize lol and I also had dreams at a young age to paint " ala " John Constable but using Philippine scenery. Oh yes, I received tutelage, informally from 3 Philippine contemporary masters, just about it and hope you like my roosters, sorry but I already got to sell these years ago lol!

oh thanks for appreciating it, it's just chalk similar to what our teachers use to use at school for the black board but packaged for art use, think the spray fixative made it look darker.

Water color is a very difficult art media for me especially the wet on wet style, never really learned it because I hate not being able to use white but rather white is a leave out, there is no way to correct mistakes unlike in oil.
We have things in common like love for art, antiques and probably plants I will show my works soon as I get enough time and courage to restart lol.

@louievill Chinese paintings look to be simple and easy, but actually it is not easy when you really paint it. As I tried it before. I prefer to oil painting much more as you can cover your mistakes with more paints You can finish your painting even for a year. Whereas you can not correct your mistakes if you try Chinese painting.

@youless that is very true, it is like water color painting, you cannot cover mistakes. My roosters were done in pastel, I used my fingers and tissue paper to spread the colors, no brushes were used, only colored pencil to draw fine lines, I think I can do Chinese painting, I hope

Honestly I am considering Chinese painting on paper and ink but I might use water color, one of my students showed me how to paint shrimps in black and white, it's so beautiful, but someone has to do the calligraphy if it's needed

Out of my 3 mentors 2 already passed away, I do not think it would be right to give their names here although I would say that they are in Philippine contemporary realism art books.
Out of my 3 children, its my daughter who draws and paints well as well as a niece who is a graphic artists but also does traditional painting.

Lately, I have started to have an interest in paintings too. That was when I was invited into a painting sessions and I found it very relaxing and enoyable. I hope I can attend to one again but its a bit pricey for me to afford as often as I want it to be.
Your painting is quite good why not start selling them... it might give you some money.

@louievill The one I am describing is the Sip and Gogh where it is like a resto but you are given a blank canvass and choose a painting you would copy. That was fund thing to do actually I have no formal lessons from any school or mentor but in this place you will feel like you are a pro since you will be guided by a mentor who will help you finish your painting as close as the original one. I just do not know if they would accept to freelance painting where you are to create your own.

@rsa101 you should try, give yourself a chance, you might discover something within yourself so long as it does not interfere with what is more importaant to you then it's fine.

It's easier to learn now because of YouTube unlike when I was learning under several mentors who were realists, I have not painted for I think 15 years so I review theories and watch artists paint on the internet and compare what I know and learned
Cheaper options for art materials are also available now, infact I plan to buy cheap first as I practice and re-hone my skills. I have experienced selling small paintings I made, in fact the 2 pictured were sold. I made more money as part time art dealer and investing in art.

Australia has a vast outback and countryside plus a very rich flora and fauna that would all be good painting subjects. So you are also a Constable fan? haha.. One of this days I would try my very best to copy his romanticism and apply it to local Philippine scenery.

@rheicel it's just a hobby for me cause I'm a businessman but learned painting from professional contemporary masters, I did not spend much since they were former drinking buddies and maybe saw my talent. There was also a time in my life that I supported young artists so they just saw it fair to improve and teach me

@mlgen1037 when I was young and single, I was more interested in breeding and genetics to produce a super foul lol. I don't like to gamble so the gamblers either buy or manage my fouls while I breed do the training and formulate the feeds and vitamins, but I gave all that up before I got married and rediscovered my faith.

Congrats on having such a talent it would take me a lifetime just to paint the front door and cannot even do that.
I do have an eye for art though so I suppose that is something.
One of the guys around here had done a painting with a spray paint you know and it was really good it was about Jack Sparrow theme and some jealous other person went and sprayed it all over with a load of rubbish so now all you can see is the tentacles of that other character forgot what hiis name is out of the Film.

Yes whoever he is has ruined a really good spray painting it speaks of jealousy alright and how.

Nice to know there's another one like me here very nice and besutiful still life painting, hope you get to finish it. One of my problem is how to finish a painting to the point that I would sign it, I always find fault or something I want to change lol!
I had started to paint again but the pace is very slow, I had forgottem a lot of theories and still recovering my automatic color mixing skill while painting, getting it back slowly.

I made paintings of scenaries in oil paint but never took pictures. I'm a fan of the romanticist landscape painter John Constable, I want to copy his style but with a tinge of realism, Filipino scenery instead of the English countryside.

@YrNemo the Philippines has more than 7,000 islands, everyone has has it's own unique topography and culture so it's so vast and diverse in terms of being an art subject, if given a chance, this is what I would like to paint " ala " John Constable style.
Hope you at least saw the Manila sunset and Manila's old churches
