I'm So Dizzy!

During this past hour at the computer I've been dizzy on and off. Do you think maybe it's time for me to retire for the night? I hope that will work. The doctor says this dizziness isn't related to the heart problem. He doesn't know why I sometimes get dizzy when I'm sitting down. Usually I'm at the computer when this happens.
It's late, so I will go to bed after I post this, but it often happens in the afternoon. I just can't figure it out. The doctor says I won't pass out, even though I feel like I might. Sometimes I feel better when I stand up.
Have you heard of this before?

Maybe you spend a bit too much time at the computer and your eyes get tired but really I'm only guessing. I think as you get older funny things happen. I can get dizzy if I sit or stand up too quickly but I think that happens to a lot of people.

I think that's temporary low blood pressure. That can happen to me, too, under similar circumstances. This is a bit different than that. I can be sitting here in front of the computer without moving more than my hands or arms for at least a few minutes, and suddenly I feel very woozy. The world doesn't spin, but I fear I will faint if I stand up. I don't faint, and after a while the feeling passes and I'm OK. Maybe my body is reaching its expiration date, or at least it's "best by" date.

I try to be in bed by around 10:30 PM. I'm not responsible for what I might say or do after that...I'm really not that alert.

@Morleyhunt I did that when I was working. I'm glad I've left that life behind. I enjoyed the work, but not the commute than made me get up so early.

I've always been a night owl. Don't expect anything rational about of me before 10 AM.

Could it be vertigo?
You might want to take a day or two away from the computer and/or television and see if it persists.

@Starmaiden I wear glasses only for distance. I have had cataract surgery and my eyes are set to nearsighted, like my natural eyes were. I do more reading and computer work than work when I need to see far away, like when I'm driving.

@bagarad Do you wear glasses? If not you may need them while on the computer.

Yeah, it's better to get some sleep now before you ends up fainting.

That's why I went to bed. I really should have done that anyway earlier. But you know how it is when you start myLotting.

I'm on Metoprolol, and since October the doctors have been trying to get my dosage adjusted properly again to prevent my heart palpitations. I went to bed around 2AM last night. Before I could fall asleep I got a case of palpitations that lasted until 6AM. When that happens, I'm supposed to take a bit more Metoprolol (12.5 mg). My regular doses now add up to 75 mg. I'm not always light-headed. It happens periodically, almost always when I'm sitting.

That sounds to me like an inner-ear problem (of course I'm no doctor.) Sometimes I get vertigo when seeing things scroll on a screen.

I hope laying down helps. It sounds like your doctor needs to check for other things

It is time to rest eyes and brain and take a break from this device.

I did that, and went to bed like a good girl. An hour later I got a case of heart palpitations that lasted until 6AM. Needless to say, I'm not at my best today. I only got about four hours of sleep. Think I'll wait until tomorrow to work on taxes again.

My cardiologist has not given any advice about this dizziness. He just says it's not related to my heart. After taxes are done I'll need to see my internist again.

When I'm dizzy I drink hot milk and eat sandwiches.

I"m not supposed to have either one -- even for lunch. I don't think this is a 'dizzy" kind of hunger.

That's easier said than done. Even after I went to bed last night I got heart palpitations that were worse than the dizziness and they lasted three hours in spite of all I did to try to stop them. Hard to sleep when that's happening. I finally got to sleep about 6.
