Less than a week to the Fairbridge Music Festival, Western Australia

It’s Sunday here and this time next week, if the stars all align, we’ll be at Fairbridge Music Festival taking in as many of the concerts on offer as we can. We’re taking the bus as it’s much more comfortable and now, with its speedy red stripe, and a big ‘For Sale’ sign on it, who knows? We might find a buyer for it. We’re lending our car and caravan to good friends and they’ll be attending too. They have a very traumatic situation going on in their lives with no hope of an early resolution so it will be good for them to have a few days away from their problems. The weather could do anything. Fairbridge Festivals have had dust storms, heatwaves, flooding and thunderstorms but that’s part of the fun. The photo is from a storm that threatened last year’s event. Luckily it passed to the east of the venue. But isn’t it a great photo?

That is a very beautiful photo, despite the fact that it was so ominous! What kind of music do they play at the Fairbridge Festival?

It used to be the Fairbridge Folk Festival but the music is now so diverse they've changed the name. A lot of folk, Celtic, indy, African drumming - just about everything except classical and rock. They get some great international acts there too. We've scored a couple of great Canadian acts that came to the Music Shack either before or after Fairbridge. They have a website and there is now a film based on the festival. Can't remember the name of it offhand.

I found the name of the film. It's called Three Summers. It was produced by Ben Elton.

The photo is great. I hope you will not have a storm this year. How far is it from your home ? And you painted a red stripe just to sell the bus ?

@JudyEv That's not funny to lose a driving license. She is lucky to have you among her relationships. I want to sell my car since I moved last year in a half pedestrian street, but I hesitate as I need to go in the countryside times to times, and without a car it is not easy, if not impossible for some places. I wish you a happy music Festival !

We are going to Pinjarra on Thursday afternoon (about 1 1/2 hours drive). A friend is catching the train from Perth to Pinjarra so we'll meet her there. ( She is over 60 and has lost her licence because of speeding too often which I find pretty hilarious.) Four of us are meeting there and Friday morning we have only 20 minutes to drive to join the queue for entry to the Festival. The bus was very 'ordinary' being all white so we hope the stripe will create a bit more interest in it.

People just about expect something to happen at Fairbridge. Once there were very strong winds and lots of people camping in tents had to scurry around and try to strengthen their fixings.

@JudyEv one has to stay alerted about the weather...specially thunderstorm, as it can create short circuit in the stage.

@prakashj256 Yes, that's true. The musicians and sound people all get a bit worried if there is thunder and lightning.

@JudyEv I remember once being at a festival where it started to rain and I found this big garbage bag and made a hole for my head and for my arms and away I went and had so much fun dancing as I figured nobody would know it was me.

@1hopefulman Way to go!! Vincw and I have plastic ponchos which are a bit like your garbage bag but I think we are still recognisable. So maybe we won't dance too much.

Quite a risk to take pictures when there is a storm. But I see the results. Stunning indeed. That was a kind deed helping your friends.

I'm not sure why it would be a risk taking photos such as these. It wasn't actually storming where we were.

We had a sign on it last year and these two dear little kids showed up and said it was just what their Mum needed! We gave them the grand tour and they thanked us very much and off they went. They were so polite it was pleasure to show them the ins and outs and they were very impressed.

Wow! It sure is! sounds like a lot of fun- what type of music will it be? Rock, Country or old Hippie- ha! Must tell you my son is in Australia right now and will be home next week. He is enjoying a few days by Bondi Beach after a conference down there. Melbourne, I think. Does that make sense?

That makes a lot of sense. Our son lives in Melbourne. I'm sure he'll enjoy Bondi Beach. The music is a bit of everything other than classical and rock. No pure country either. It started out as a folk festival but has expanded to include a huge mix of genres.

There are always huge lines of cars queueing to get in so we're going to the closest town on Thursday and camping there for the night. We'll leave early nest morning to try to beat some of the hordes. We're also picking up a friend in that town. She is catching the train from the city and coming with us to the festival. So it's almost a two hour trip in total but we travel a bit slower than most cars.

@Ronrybs We will join a long queue then once we're 'in' we'll head to the paddock where everyone camps and try to get a level area that will take the four outfits we'll have.
