A Little Bit Reluctant to Buy Clothes Online.

Due to recent life events, I have to somehow update my wardrobe. My mother in law died. We can't wear clothes with happy or vibrant colors for two years. My husband's family is traditional and it is their culture to mourn for dead loved ones for two years. I was recently cleaning up my closet and majority of my clothes are in happy colors. I recently stumbled upon local online shops selling clothes for a much cheaper price. I was surprised because I also see their designs in malls. I am hesitant to buy from them because of past online purchase experiences. Sometimes, the quality or color is not the same as the ones shown in their pictures. I guess buying online will always have risks.

That is very traditional. I have a hit or miss with shopping online - I hope it works out for you and sorry to hear about your mother in law.

@Anne88 Did she go to the doctors regularly? I am sorry to hear you all lost your mother in law to cancer. Yes, sizing is a hit/miss for me as well when it comes to online shopping.

@infatuatedbby That was one of our problems. My mother in law never had regular check ups. She just went to the doctor for very high blood pressure and severe back pain which later on radiated to her legs. Whenever my mom in law felt something bad, she would just take oriental medicine.

@Anne88 Oh I see. :( I am sorry to hear that. If she had gone to the doctors for a regular check up, they could maybe have helped treated her.

Yes, that way we can fit it properly. We can also choose the right color.

Well, I have bought clothes online a couple of times. Some of the experiences the clothes were too small, but the last time I bought 2 skirts just recently the fit was great. I think it is a hit and miss no matter where you decide to buy from.

I hope that wherever she is, she's happy. I am just relieved that she is not in pain anymore. We took care of her during her sickness and we were with her till her last breath. Whenever she was in pain, I feel pain, too.

The thing I hate about buying clothing online is sizing. Sizing is hard to get right because it varies by brand and even color with the same brand. I usually just buy in the store since I can try them on or if I don't and they don't fit it is easier to take them back to the store versus sending them back. Not too long ago I bought 3 pairs of jeans for work. They are the same brand and style yet all three fit differently. One is the lightest blue jean, one is a little bit darker, and the third is dark. The dark ones fit tighter in the waist but looser in the legs. The others fit looser in the waist and tighter in the legs. Why? I don't have a clue since the fit is supposed to be the same. I hope you find what you are looking for and I am sorry for your loss. Good luck with your online clothes shopping.

@Anne88 I tend to think people who can find clothes easily are lucky too. I am definitely not one of those people.

@morgoodie I often stay away when it says free-size. It always falls short. We have different body types, I find those people who find clothes easily very lucky, whether it is online or at the mall.

you can check the reviews first before buying any clothes online. sometimes size is different from what you think, it might be in asian mesurement which is smaller than american sizes.

Also, the models might not be as tall as me. That is also a problem. On their model, sometimes the dress falls just above the knee, on me it is way too short.

Yes, I think it's a must. I also find it therapeutic, much like trying on shoes at the mall.

I do buy clothes online sometimes just for the convenience but I agree with what you say and the sizing can be different if the items come from a different country. If the purchases come from China I know I will have to buy stuff one or two sizes bigger than normal.

It seems that your husband and family are really quite traditional. I do think that sometimes it is not good to buy online. I am not pulling down the credibility of online shopping sites. I had read an article that some online shops pay people to give good feedbacks to certain items. And if it was being delivered, it wasn't the same shown in pictures.

Yes. That was my experience a few years back. I got a dress that looked really good in the photo. I was planning to wear it casually, when the package came, the dress was all shiny. It looked like the ones hippies used to wear in the 1970s.

@Anne88 I am sorry to hear that. Sometimes I prefer to buy items in the local mall. We can able to see the items and touch them. Then, we can buy them after.

my cousin bought a blouse online then had to pay a relative to repair it because the sleeves were tight, while the chest was loose. i didn't know some people mourn (wear dark clothes) for 2 years.

My husband's family does. We even have to wear the black pins. Yes that is usually the problem, or the stitching is not good. Sometimes the clothes will stain other clothes when washed.

@hereandthere I am beginning to think that we are way too traditional. We wear black, white, brown, dark blue, gray, and dark green. Of course we were the black pin on top of it. Then we offer food and light an incense before Mama's picture every time we eat, or everytime there is a visitor in the house. When we visit the temple, we fold paper with silver and gold, then we burn them.

Indeed. You better chat first with the seller or check the ratings of other buyers. Some previous buyers may post the actual pictures. By the way why 2 years? What religious practice is that?
