Marriage .. if you had your time over

One or two of my friends tell me that if they had their time over again they would not get married. My marriage failed and I was devastated as I thought we were happy. I always thought I would get married again but as time has gone on I have learned to appreciate my independence and enjoy being single.
If you could do it all again would you get married to the same person you are with now or if you are single do you plan to get married?

I would marry the same person but handle the marriage better. As I would now know our strengths and weaknesses.

@oahuwriter Is that question for @JohnRoberts or me? I don't want to marry again as my breakup with my husband was painful and I've learned to enjoy being single. I do have a partner I don't live with though.

@LadyDuck I already knew what you would say Anna as I know you are happy. I suppose it is good to have fun first but then again it may not have been that great. At least you have always been happy with your husband.

@sprite1950 You are right, we would have liked to live together without feeling the need to marry, but my parents would have never allowed me.

@LadyDuck Well as you are happy I don't suppose it matters now. Some people live together for years and then when they marry they find it doesn't work. I always think that's strange, that a piece of paper should make a difference.

I think I would only ever get married to my current wife. If we split up I certainly wouldn't get married again.
There are things I would possibly change in the way I've behaved but I would still marry my current wife if asked to do it again!

I am happy in my marriage but I believe we both went into marriage without really knowing what we were getting ourselves into. So, if I should ever be single again, I would be very, very careful next time about choosing a partner. I think I could be happy single should anything happen to my husband.

@JudyEv I have a partner I don't live with and I would never want to share a house with him. I'm very independent so I understand the feeling.

@sprite1950 I know other 'couples' who do this and I think it is very wise. You have the benefit of companionship and someone to go places with if you want it but you also have lots of lovely 'me' time.

@SIDIKIMPOLE There are things I used to do when I was single and now I can't make time for those things because of responsibilities I have.

My only regret is that i married young. If i have to live again i would prefer to be married my early 30's hahaha. No matter who'll you marry, the road to having a good marriage is the same. You must both love each other. You must have trust, respect, loyalty, faithfulness and the other flavors of good values. Marriage can't stand without those.

@chavezrmc To be honest now that he is older I think he regrets his decision to end it but it's been more than 30 years now and too late to go back.

Well being we are not together now, no I would not do it again. One person is happy the other is not and the time spent with in laws in all out business, would not do it again with him.
I can be happy on my own, and if someone else should come along, I would not rush into marriage. I like my freedom, of doing what I want, when I want and no arguements.

My first marriage, I felt like dying when it ended in divorce! It took over eleven years, for me to ever think about dating another man. When I met Jay, we had both been hurt, badly. Remarriage was never an option, for either one of us! Two years later, we got married:) LOL
