Sold my little car yesterday

Yesterday was both a sad and happy day. I sold my little red car which made me sad as it has served me well but it went to a decent home for the price I wanted. I have a new, slightly bigger car, because I need it to pack everyone in when I go on vacation at the end of May.
One thing I noticed was how many time wasters I encountered while trying to sell it. People who didn't turn up to view it when they said they would, people who made silly offers and even people who were rather rude and said I was asking too much .. but in the end I was happy with my sale.
Have you ever advertised an item either online or in the real world. What was your experience? Did you get the price you wanted?

I did once, but I guess I say I am bad in computing expenses and profit, I was not able to foresee that they can return it to me because of the size doesnt feet, I should have ask for the shipping fee. So I ended up selling without profit.

@sprite1950 100% true! I agree... we learn from our mistakes. But i guess selling is not my forte. :(

@luisadannointed I don't really think it's mine either so it's just as well I don't have to sell things often.

No I have not. We sold our car last year, and bought a new one. Around August actually. I did not miss it. But the first car we had, I loved it. It was a cute two door Morris. Blue colored. Mamy Blue. Loved it. When dad sold it to buy a better and larger vehicle I cried my eyes out. I guess this new car has consoled me some.

Yes we can get very attached to our cars. I felt quite wistful as I saw it drive off down the road but it did go to someone nice. I love my new car too.

We get attached to our things. I felt sad when I had to treat our washing machine as scrap as it served us for 26 years and there was not a scratch on it until this last problem that rendered it useless. I wrote a post on it.

@allknowing That's amazing. I've never had one that lasted that long. I think my record would be around 15 years,

I was quite attached to my little car and was quite sad as I saw the back of it driving down the road. I don't think I've ever felt that way about my washing machines though

We did when my husband decided to sell his sport car. The car was 35 years old and he found someone who really wanted that car. He negotiated a bit on the price, but my husband was happy to sell the car to someone who appreciated that model.

It was really important to me that it went to someone nice and the man who bought it really was a nice man who bought it for his daughter, Some of the enquiries I got seemed very dodgy.

@sprite1950 I can very well understand. My husband was not ready to give "his car" to people he disliked.

I owned a Jeep CJ 7 once that was 15 years old when I went to sell it. It was still in great shape, and had nothing mechanically wrong with it, but with a second baby on the way, I needed a vehicle with a little more room for the kiddos. So, when I put the Jeep up for sale, I was only asking $500 for it. However, the first buyer who showed up to look at it wanted to give me $1000 for it. We actually got into an argument about how much he would pay for it; he wanted to pay more than what I was asking. In the end, we compromised and he gave me $800. I've never been in a situation in my entire life where someone wanted to overpay for something. It was mind boggling!

@sprite1950 I think he realized he had a hidden gem in that Jeep, and that I was asking too little for it. It just goes to show that there are good, honest people left in the world!

Yes some of them were really odd and a few times I said I had sold it when I hadn't because I didn't want them to come round! I was glad I waited a bit as the man who bought it was really nice.

@JudyEv I was a bit iffy about giving out my registration number to anyone who wanted to check tax or insurance but I did in the end as I would want to check those things.

I didn't want to sell it to a dealer because they wouldn't have given me much for it. I did much better selling it privately.

I am glad Snowdrop66, that you got a good offer and you have a bigger car now. I sold my car before I left for Israel and was heartbroken to part with it. It was the best car I had and loved it so much. I was told I could not bring it here but I could have. I only drive my scooter here and do not want to drive a car here.

I'm glad you sold your car and got what you wanted for it. I have a lot etgo.com account, like you, after agreeing to meet for a promise buy, twice they never showed ...I ride the bus so I carry it with me... when they don't show, I have to carry it back home. Mostly, the people show up and buy the item and mostly very nice. One person told me they are a caregiver, so couldn't meet. I wait, no contact after a month, so I leave a message... guess you no longer interested, and put it back for sale.

It is funny sometimes how we can often become emotionally attached to our cars. As for time wasters, oh yeah. When you are looking for renters, or buyers of something you get a lot of those. No shows, late shows, postponed shows...it's annoying.

Goodbye, little car.
We sold a pair of Air Jordan rubber shoes and like you, there were people who are too thrifty and asking just about everything but we ended up getting a good deal.

It can be hard to get rid of something that you have had for a while even a car. You become used to the way it drives and just everything about it. I am glad that you had success selling it and getting the price you want. I can well imagine how frustrating it can be especially with people who waste your time. If they weren't going to show, they could have given you a call to let you know instead of wasting your time.

@sprite1950 People just don't have consideration for other people. I guess they feel they are the only important people with things to do. I'm sure they wouldn't like it if someone did that to them. I am glad it worked out for you.

I had the same sad but happy feelings when my husband and I sold our pick up truck in March 2010. It was the first vehicle we had bought together as a married couple in 1988. We owned it for 22 years. We had a lot of memories with it , that is why I was sad to see it go. We sold it to a good person and got about what we thought we would get for it.
