Living With Anxiety

Out of the five forms of anxiety that about 18% of Americans suffer from I probably suffer from three of them. There is generalized anxiety disorder, social anxiety disorder, panic disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder and PTSD. I have the social anxiety, panic and PTSD. One negative thought can be so paralysing. These feelings of anxiousness can lead to some very intense physical symptoms. I have gotten so bad I have rashes and shake, can't talk or form words. Then the nausea and headaches start. It is horrible to feel this way. I was lucky to go to a experienced psychiatrist back in the early 90's who, after interviewing me for less than ten minutes, reccomended and prescribed a anxiety medication known as Remoron(Mirtazapine) and I have been taking it now for nearly twenty years. Some may not believe in medications. I didn't in the beginning. But, when you find the right medication, and it works for you and your life is liveable again it really makes it all worth while.

I have the PTSD anxiety. If I get too worried about my symptoms reemerging from my accident, I start setting them off myself. It usually takes a trigger, but it certainly happens and then is perpetuated. Currently, I have upped my consumption of Magnesium, and that is calming me down.

That's good. A healthy diet probably helps.

@celticeagle Yes, I was reading that healthy levels of Magnesium helps calm anxiety, and I was barely getting any in my diet at the time. Also, my anxiety really made my allergies worse this season. I have been relying on congestion medicine and Benadryl.

@OneOfMany .....I know that magnesium helps sleep issues. I take it for that at times.

I do feel lucky. I even did the DNA testing and couldn't find one that the side effects were something I could stand. Luckily my last stay in the hospital I was put on a couple of new ones that help alot.

You all have those doctors, and are not looked down for approaching them. I am not confident that everything about me is right all the time. Sometimes I feel elated, sometimes lethargic. I do suffer with panic attacks, on small scale. Social anxiety to an extreme level. I do not like mixing with people. But I have so far survived. Yeah..perhaps it could have been better. Don't know.

That is really wonderful you found a medication to control your anxiety. One source I found says there are 6.8 million sufferers of general anxiety disorder. That's astonishing
