Volunteering: Are you a fun?

May 1, 2018 5:12pm CST
When it comes to volunteering, people differ. Some like to volunteer and engage in physical work, helping to build something, fixing an issue, protecting the environment, teaching kids, rescuing animals, etc. But there are ones who don't like to do such work for numerous reasons. Personally, I've never really done a significant volunteering work, except maybe in school, but only doing small actions. What about you? Have you ever participated in such activities? Do you plan to do so?

Every year I volunteer at my kids' elementary school, but this year I've volunteered the most in my son's 2nd grade class - helping out with reading and math for a couple hours or more sometimes - and even on field trips. I am happy to do cutting, stapling, glueing, all that manual type stuff which I've been doing, but this is the first year I've actually helped with academics - it hasn't been easy!!

@EricMcCole I hope so, but sometimes I'm not so sure . I have realized what a big responsibility it is to educated children - my respect for teachers has gotten HUGE!

@much2say Really, it is! Teaching is a tedious but noble job! :)

Yes, it isn't easy of course, though you did a fantastic job! :)

I used to volunteer weekly at the local museum. Part of the reason I did it was to keep my skills sharp for using a register and taking phone calls while I was out of work, but I also chose to volunteer there because of my interest in the town's history. It seemed like a valuable and rewarding experience. I got to learn a lot of things as well as meet some interesting people.

Now this, I would love to do... or a book store or a library or a theatre. Any of those places and I would be coming around every day

@AlisaTR You could probably go to these places and ask if there is a volunteer program you can participate in. Otherwise there might be information about it on their websites if they have one.

I remember when typhoon Haiyan destroyed some parts in this country, there were a lot of work to do and me and my son, nephews, and nieces, volunteered in packing food to be given to the people who were victims of the strongest typhoon that devastated this country. It felt good.

I volunteered for a few project. One of them was building a play park in memory of two children who were abused and murdered by their parents.

I do volunteer. Sometimes. But I haven't been very disciplined or reliable about it unfortunately. I usually give donations

It's a truly honorable act to donate, too!

I used to do volunteer work. I prefer to be doing the work at fundraisers and the like, but they had me doing mostly paperwork in the office.
