Just Put The Darn Phone DOWN !

These are the new days we live in, cell phone and social media addiction is at a all time high! I have nothing against social media and technology but I have been noticing that everywhere I go everyone has their phone in their hands with their face burried in it. No matter where I go, supermarket, bank, even in traffic people are glued to their phones. Its very sad how the new age/era or millenials care more about where they are to post about it online than actually having a good time overall. I went to Outback steak house yesterday and about 75% of the people dining had their phones out texting or snapping pictures of their food, if not selfies.... When will the madness end....

I agree with you. It's an addiction becoming a social ill.

I am glad that you are also annoyed by this trend. I thought that it was me, because I am no more young. Everywhere I go, people are glued to their phones and do not even look where they are walking. I hope this madness will end soon.

@BACONSTRIPSXXX I have seen young people falling hit by the trains because they crossed the rails without watching.

To me, when someone stays on their phone, it shows me that the phone is more important than my company. I must be boring or something.

@BACONSTRIPSXXX Thanks, it is terrible to feel like you don't mean anything to someone you love. I don't think cell phones should be used in public except for vital information/messages and emergencies.

@akalinus Same here, yesterday I was doing food shopping and I was on the phone with my wife asking if she needed anything and when I looked up I literally saw about 10 people pushing a shopping cart with one hand and texting with the other

You touched on what I think is the saddest part of this obsession. People are forgetting to enjoy the experience because they are too busy trying to film it or photograph it!! It also massively annoys me when somebody is at the counter in a shop and is conducting a phone conversation while also trying to speak to the cashier. If i worked in a shop I would refuse to serve anyone who was talking on their phone!!

Yeah thats rude as well, its like the chicks who go to the gym to take pics of them supposively working out and they spend more time taking selfies than actually doing excercise

@BACONSTRIPSXXX Whenever I see this I am like, where are the parents? You'd think they would encourage the kids to put the phone down and get outside and so something? It boggles the mind.

It is becoming more common. I think that when you are at dinner, you should try to participate in the topic of discussion rather than trying to text or fiddle around on your phone. If there is nothing to do at the dinner table - like if there is no conversation that you want to participate in or no food on the table yet, or you are by yourself, then it's okay to use your phone.

What never makes sense to me is when people take their phones with them to the movie theater. They are texting, posting on facebook and whatnot while the movie is playing. Why spend $20+ dollars to sit in a movie theater and do what you could do for free at home? I guess they like the popcorn...

Heh. Thanks for the post. Cell phone addiction is one of my pet peeves. I get especially miffed when people text while driving and snarl traffic or cause an accident.

Its awful! I did a full rant about this a while ago on my blog. I was at the park and some mom was so busy being involved with her phone she wasn't paying any attention to what her young toddler daughter was doing. There was a stream and a lake very nearby. That kid have drown and because she wasn't being supervised another parent started yelling at her bad because the kid had spent like 40 minutes playing with toys that wasn't hers (the owner of them wasn't paying attention for a long time either)

Thats awful and dangerous, in a public place and open area anyone can just walk up to your child and walk away with them and you wouldnt even notice

I have a tablet and i love to read. Instead of going to the library, buying magazines or books I can just get online and read. I also like doing jigsaw puzzles so on a computer, no lost pieces.
