I'm Glad I'm Not a Fish

My dentist has a massive fish tank in his waiting room. I don't know anything about fish tanks nor gallons etc but it is the largest I've ever seen. It's filled with beautiful fish of all colors and the tank is very peaceful and serene. It's the perfect ambiance for nervous patients as it does quite the nerves. As I sat there and watched the fish swim around, up and down and back and forth it seemed to me that the life of a fish must be very boring. I'm talking fish tank fish. I couldn't imagine having my life confined to such a small space and sharing it with other fish. Even though the scenery was beautiful it must be boring. As other patients were enjoying watching the fish swim around they probably would have thought I was crazy with what I was thinking. I knew once my visit was over I could escape and those poor fish would continue to swim day and night for days to come. My thoughts on those fish are these two things 1. I'm glad I'm not a fish 2. At least they didn't have to get their teeth worked on

How could the fish be bored? They get to watch nervous humans.

Well, if you're a fish there are probably worse places to be than in a beautiful fish tank in a dentists office..free food, comfortable temps and you don't have to worry about being eaten!

Guess it's way better than poor fish who constantly fear for their lives

Hmmm, never thought of it... fish being boring. I often wonder what the fish must be thinking when people are looking at them or kids tapping on the fish tank!! I think it would be cool to swim around!!

I'm sure they are content but hate when kids tap on the glass.

I pity the fishes in a tank. Life must be boring for those poor creatures, seeing weird faces looking at them all the day long.

@Marilynda1225 This is what I think. It's like the wild animals caked in the zoos.

They must get tired of being the entertainment for the patients waiting for the dentist

Oh ! you are so kind hearted that you fekt bad for the fishes in the tank but you know what they arenot swimming but they are dancing for you all who are having tooth aches and root canals saying that see how blessed we are that we donot need our teeth to be repaired or ........ and go up and down swirling around also to entertain you and get you out of the nervousness that on e feels before or after havin g the surgery . Cone on dear friend we all have different if that we have to accept might be if it was not the fish in the tanl but the humans and the fish coming for dental check ups. what say ??????? :-)

I don't think they mind if they were bred and raised in a tank as most aquarium fish are, its different if they were caught in the wild and placed in an aquarium then the tank would feel like a prison cell no matter how large and aerated.

Maybe if the fish are fortunate their brains are too small to feel boredom.

Not having to go to the dentist is a plus alright. In San Diego, there was a great bar that had an entire wall as an aquarium for tropical fish. It was a great place. I guess as long as they are fed and the water is clean, they have all they need.

I can't stand fish tasks that have a water sound to them. It doesn't make me calm, it makes me want to pee. Yes I wouldn't want to be fish either.

I read somewhere that a fish has a very short memory and by the time they round their tank once the scenery is all new again. It sounds to me like whoever made that up just wants to feel better about having fish in a tank!

@minx267 My Dad told me once that animals don't feel pain like we do, not to the same extent anyway, but I don't think that was true either.

@Marilynda1225 I understand what you are saying about the fish. I wonder if they are bored or happy having a place to share with other fish.

Those poor little fishes, they are watched their whole day long-that would drive me crazy! I'm glad that the trip to the dentist is behind you.

I wonder what I would have been thinking, sitting there waiting for the dentist to do his "dirty work". Maybe I would have thought " I wish I were a fish right now"

i wonder if they know that they are not in their natural habitat.
