Can happiness be bought?

I have often wondered if happiness can actually be bought considering the fact that the wealthy are always happy while the poor seem to be faced always with sadness but taking my findings further I have also discovered that when you own a good amount of money you tend to have joy and peace of mind for example if you check your bank account balance and it reads a $1,000,000 an involuntary smile pops up on your face which shows how happy you are.
So guys can happiness actually be bought?

I think that money can help you if you're on the path to happiness. I'm currently struggling financially, trying to start a new career, and I think a chunk of money would ease my journey to my ideal future

Sure it can! How do you feel when you eat an ice cream cone you bought? Probably pretty darn happy

@Sleazy well, if it can, then good. But I still opt for simple life.

A lot of wealthy people are not happy. A lot of poor people are not happy. A few wealthy people are happy and a few poor people are happy. Happiness is a choice, whether you have money or not. You get up everyday and choose to be happy. A lot of people are happy when they can help others, because that's what they believe their purpose in life is. You don't need money to help people, but money can do a lot of things to help raise a persons standards. So, can money buy happiness? I think it depends on the person and their outlook on life. For me, I know having money in my savings account opens up life experiences: experiencing different cuisine, cultures and entertainment as well as business endeavors. Will that sustain happiness? If I treat money right and continue to help others, than yes, money can buy happiness. People can also be happy by surrounding themselves with other happy people!

Greetings,
Happiness is a concept and, often, a overrated one. We tend to believe in something called "true happiness", where everyone is smiling all the time, enjoying life at its fullest, without any sorrows and regrets. However, that is not true. It doesn't happen that way. One of our characteristics is the fact that we are never satisfied for long - we are always in search of something new, like if we had to achieve something bigger. We are that way due to the evolutionary process - if we hadn't this little mechanism, we wouldn't have evolved to the point we are today.
So, on that sense, happiness exists, but not as most believe it is. We can live a life with a lot of happiness, a lot of peace of mind, but it won't be there all the time and always. You can get to a high relaxation point, like if you reached an established line of joy - but there will be peaks of anger, sadness and etc. now and then. We will NEVER be 100% happy - but we can reach the 99% and learn how to deal with ourselves on the 1%.
Taking that into consideration, most of us are taught, from child, the importance of money. Not from our families per se, but from the poor situation it leaves us in when we don't have money. You can't study in a good school because you don't have money. You can't eat the most delicious food, because you don't have money. Sometimes you starve. You don't have good clothes - they're all ripped, because you don't have money. The society pushes you into the consumer's dream - you need that new videogame, that new mobile, that new car, that big house... And you suffer from not having it. When you have money, you immediately acquires the possibility of ownership.
Happiness can't be bought. Even with the money, you might feel empty. But if you have the right mindset, I assure you can be quite happy with money. It can't buy happiness, but it can buy you ways to achieve it - as long as you know yourself deeply and understand your desires.
Regards!

Hello, Jordan,
I believe that it depends on the person's personality.
Happiness is relative to me.
Thank you for the discussion.

I don't really think so, but having to struggle with money. and now being able to save, I find that money can help bring a peace of mind.

Happiness is a feeling that can be due to a person's state of mind. On my travels to developing nations I have seen some very happy poor people. They are happy and yet they have very little money. The houses might be quite basic in places like those.
In the western world many people have loads of money yet very little happiness. Maybe one of those has a stressful job which is well paid. That sort of person might have a busy job and little time for feeling happy. They might feel stressed.

It can be bought to a certain extent yes of course.
If I had that much money I would be smiling also like a big Cheshire Cat.
In other words grinning from ear to ear at the thought of being able to do and live as I want.

50% right:50% wrong. I am really sorry to say but lete tell you that you will not get anything really big even if you are very wealthy because wealthy people will always have alot of tension and stress regarding their life , property, bhsiness, profits, their current profession, job , career etc. With lots of money man encounters ego, greed, jealosy, frustration, stress, etc.

With or without money, life can be stressful. I think it matters how you handle those stresses. Not having money, people are stressed about how they are going to put food on the table, they stress about making that months' rent or mortgage payment. On the other hand, if you have money you might worry about if your friends like you or your money, which investments to make or trust. When it comes down to it, happiness is dependent on the person themselves and how they view life.

It can't be bought , happiness springs from the inside like a fountain. Its not by money but by what is happening within and around you.

I don't think so. A person can have a million dollars in the bank, but if they have a incurable disease, all the money in the world cannot buy them happiness.
