Oh? Where are the Cook Islands? I have seen roads named "Cook" lol, but I have never heard of the place itself. What attractions are there?

@Mavic123456 Ahh, yes the beaches are so much fun, especially if they sell ice cream cones nearby. The warm sand on your feet is like a little massage.

I prefer somewhere tropical where I can relax on the beach.

@Marilynda1225 Yes, umbrellas make the drinks fun even if it's just lemonade

I agree, tropical vacations can be so relaxing. The beach, the palm trees, and hammocks with the breeze blowing ever so lightly, I'm definitely sold on this one.

I like to have a mixture of natural beauty and interesting attractions. I look into exactly how much time I have in a destination and write a list of sights I hope to see and attractions I hope to visit. Like in St Petersburg, Russia, we had limited time and we had a must see site close to the hotel we stayed in. Yes, it was the awesome looking Church of Stained Blood. Wow! We walked along canals and saw other sights quickly. We managed to take a suburban train to where we could take a small bus in order to visit a palace garden with gold fountains. I like to visit attractions on my own with my two children. We took a guided walk in Berlin and we got more out of it than we would have has sight seeing on our own. Having said that I can tell you we also enjoyed sightseeing on our own. We could choose how long to stay in historical museums you see. On a tour I sometimes feel I need more time or less time. My son is in a wheelchair and at times on a tour we have to take a different route. Yes, we did a day trip in Iceland and they told us to wall alone between two tectonic plates. We got to see a stunning looking waterfall and we couldn't have got their ourselves without that day tour.

@ThinkGratitude Please look at a photo of the Blood Stained Church because it is beautiful. Yes, St Petersburg was stunning and fascinating.

I think I would like to vacation with you, lol.. though I am not sure I would like to see a "blood stained church" that's just a little creepy for my taste. I love historical museums and walking along the canals sounds breathtaking.

An art museum sounds like a lot of fun. I enjoy seeing the creative works of others as well. Science museums can be equally as entertaining and I know there is a great one in Rochester, New York. Driving through the country side can be so relaxing. I like all of those things as well.

A leisure at your own pace and not having to meet anyone else's time table, can be so relaxing, especially if you have time to explore.

I do like a planned but flexible schedule when vacationing. Going with the flow in my experience has always lead to scrambling to go see attractions before they close or start and I am not a fan of rushing when I am trying to enjoy myself.
I would love to see the ocean. I have actually never seen it.

I think I am like that as well. I want to make sure I see all the sights and a guided tour would do that for me. I would probably also want to relax a day and take in some of the local sites myself. I agree rushing is for the birds..lol. The Ocean, at least on the east coast is cold, brrrrr but it's clean and fun to wade in.

IF I could go on the vacation of my dreams, it would be a inland land/cruise to Alaska. With that kind of vacation the most I would need to do is what to do onboard, or when the ship goes to shore, or when the tour goes inland.

National parks can be so much fun and they are all so different. Historical sites can be equally entertaining as well as educational. They are great ideas for things to do on a vacation.

My sister in law is the same way. She likes to plan, so she can visit as much as possible without wasting time or getting lost.

The GPS is such a great invention. I venture further out of my comfort zone, knowing I have my gps with me. Spontaniety can be as much fun as a full itinerary. Maybe mix them up a little bit, depending on how long your vacation is going to be.

If you have piqued my interest, what is a hill station?
