Salad Time!

I grew up eating lettuce, tomato and onion salads with cucumber sometimes. and cole slaw. That's about all the types of salads Mom ever made, Well, she made an awesome mashed potato salad, too. It took a long while for me to break out of that and begin to expeiment with other salads. Chef salad was a favorite for a long time and I still love it. Then I discovered you could put a lot of different vegetables together. I have lately been into vegetable salads with fruit in them. Chick-fil-A got me started with their "Market Salad," which I tried to duplicate at home. It didn't turn out exactly like theirs because I didn't have all the ingredients, but it was good! Besides things like tuna salad and egg salad, what other kinds of salads can i experiment with?

I guess tuna is seafood, I never think of it like that, though. I didn't think about adding crab meat, thanks!

The market salad from Chick fil A has chicken and fruit with greens and cheese. Pecans sound sound good, and raspberry dressing sounds awesome!

I love to eat a vegan salad as part of my dinner. I am keen on cucumber, lettuce, carrot, red cabbage and beetroot. Sometimes I add nuts to my salads. I like to add on a salad dressing that is vegan friendly to my salad. Often I like to eat a salad roll or sandwich.

I love salads. I haven't been eating enough of them lately and I know I should be. Being diabetic like I am they are the perfect refreshing thing to eat.

I love salads, too, and needing to eat more was part of the inspiration for this post. I am hoping to get enough ideas to keep me eating more of them!

@peavey I like basic salads. Although I love making myself a good tuna salad and chicken salad. I don't use fruit in my salads because of the sugar. But I use Kirby's and tomatoes and lettuce and even peppers. Oh and lets not forget onions.

@inertia4 What is Kirby's? I am learning to use just about anything imaginable in a salad!

Caesar Salad is my favorite. Romaine lettuce, croutons, parmesan cheese, diced, breaded chicken, Caesar dressing.

Sounds good, all but the breaded chicken. I enjoy chicken but prefer it without breading. I need to get some parmesan cheese

I mimicked a Wendy's salad I had a couple of times. It was spinach salad with strawberries, mango, almonds, and a citrus dressing. It was so good.

@peavey Try looking at the mason jar salad pins on Pinterest, Pat. They are amazing! I like to put a lot of fruit, cheese, and protein in my salads and very little lettuce. Yes on celery, cucumbers, and tomatoes, though. PS: Saw your blog and love it.

Pinterest is a great idea, thanks! I will take a look. I have to be careful of too much protein but I do like to use cheese. Glad you like the blog .I don't post to it much any more but there are years' worth of posts on it.

If you like to toot your horn, you can try different bean salads with different vegetables. Example: Garbanzo beans (chickpeas); tomatoes; zucchinis, red peppers, mushrooms, and hot pepper if you want to spice it up.

That sounds like a good one. I like green beans and peas in salads like that. Garbanzos will be good, too, I'm sure. Thanks!

@peavey there chicken chunks available ther right? I just drain them and mix with veggies. But here we usually don't have canned chicken, only tuna. So when there are left over chicken, I use those to make salad

I love a good salad. I have sprinkled mozzarella cheese, also, chicken, cranberries, carrots, chick peas, crab meat, tomatoes and peppers into my salads at one time or other.
