Just Another School Shooting

First thing I see on the news this morning when I wake up - Another school shooting. And I can't help but wonder why nothing has been done about this yet. After decades of school and other public shootings taking place all over the U.S., why have we still done nothing?
Oh there's been plenty of talking (and by that I mean yelling at pointing fingers) by politicians looking for votes about who is to blame. But no real solutions have been discussed. Worse yet the public schools have done absolutely nothing to help stop the problem.
Anyone ever hear of metal detectors? We had them in my high school, and they worked great. Security cameras that actually work and are monitored? Security? Honestly it's not hard to keep these things from happening. It's just that no one is even trying.
Gun ban? lol No. Look, I hate guns. I wish that they had never been invented. But banning guns won't solve the problem. Bad guys don't follow laws. A gun ban just ensures that the bad guys are the only ones with guns.
Should we arm teachers? Heck no. What if the teacher is the one that snaps? No.
Why has nothing been done yet? Are schools not getting enough tax money? Do we need to have car wash fund raisers to get metal detectors and at least retail store security at our schools?

Yes, metal detectors should be in all schools.

I am in full favor of metal detectors @redhotpogo . And considering what we American's pay in school taxes, there is no excuse why ALL schools don't have them.

It caught our attention in the morning newspaper. It is quite disappointing as it is happening again and again. A quick fix solution like tightening the security of school and having safety measure will keep a check on the incident but then the mental disorder might manifest in some other way, in some other crime form. So along with temporary solution, one has to look into the depth of the problem for a more stable and long term solution. Somewhere one needs to introspect on the social and emotional well being of the youngsters and take proper actions. High aspirations, Busy life, broken families, parent's negligence...all are a recipe of disaster for social and emotional well being of our youngsters.

Mental issues definitely need to be dealt with. That of course is a long term issue that may take years to solve or which may never be solved. So security really isn't a "temporary solution." As long as there are unstable people out there with access to weapons we need to be able to block their access from public places.

Yep. I read that too. Today there was an article claiming it may have all been over a girl rejecting him. Though I'm leaning towards a mentally unstable person snapping after constant bullying.

@redhotpogo there really is no justifiable reason for anyone to go ahead and shoot up a school.
The parents of the shooter are liable as well.
