Are you a hoarder and if so what is your logic behind it?

I simply do not understand the logic of those who love to hoard even at the expense of depriving them of their daily necessities
They spend little on themselves and those around them but have fat bank balances and even goods. My friend's husband had this craze for collecting antiques. Their house did not have an inch of space that could be called living space.
Don't these people know they will have to leave all that behind?

I want to be a hoarder. A hoarder of money but it's difficult to hoard.

But you do not do that at the expense of depriving yourself of a good life.

@allknowing Not really - except that it takes up some space which could be used up otherwise.

Hoarding is a psychological illness. Those people are mentally unbalanced in some ways. They are harmless, except by the harm they do to themselves.

My friend's husband would deprive them of their daily needs but invest in antiques telling them they will become billionaires but did not plan to sell them.

Yes, it starts by collecting something and then it is hard to stop and then you realize you cannot stop. I have had lots of problems. That is why I am the perfect person to help those that cannot get rid of things. I am very supportive and encouraging and pitch right in to help people decide what to do with unwanted things.

The question here is why they deprive themselves of necessities and hoard away. They surely know they will have to leave all that behind.

@allknowing I use the art and craft supplies for drawing and painting and other creative purposes. Most of it was purchased by or for my late husband as tools necessary for his job, always at a professional discount. Nothing was purchased frivolously. Most of the stuff has increased in value. It would be foolish to get rid of any of it, I think. Of course there is also the sentimental value, too.

You did the right thing. Also your husband listened to you. Not so with my friend Her house has no living space as every inch is covered with antiques - all the money spent on it.

They keep hoarding and never know how to get rid of stuff. Then there are those wealthy people whose main aim is to have a huge bank balance which they leave behind when the call comes and this they are aware of but still go on amassing.

I think people who hoard like that have mental problems, its an addiction.
I am more minimal than a hoarder. I have stuff but it all had a place in the house, organized and I can walk and live in my home.
At times I can see I am getting to much and I get rid of the older stuff, since I bought new anyways. There is no need to have 2 of most things anyways.
I have cleaned up several estates and there is no need to keep somethings those people kept.

My parents are hoarders. Its like teaching an elephant to dance when it comes to trying to lighten the load.

The funny thing is on the contrary. I seldom keep things, instead I have this tendency to just keep on throwing things. Fun part is I end up looking for them in the trash can.
