I Love NOT Working!

Not working means more time for doing whatever I want. When I had a teaching career, I used to joke how teaching interfered with my social life. That was a small part of it. Now, I can wake up when my body tells me I've had enough sleep. I can walk as long as I want with my friends and go out for coffee afterwards. I'm free to shop, vacation, make doctor and dentist appointments when convenient for me. I can go to the spa for a massage or facial when I want. It's nice, also, to get my hair done, have a mani/pedi, go out for lunch or dinner, take drives to nowhere with my husband, see a matinee movie, read my piles of books, visit with friends, take a nap, and even garden at the drop of a hat. What do you do with your free time? ~Photo is of one of our many pink rhododendrons. Our entire front landscaping is all pink. A variety of shrubs and trees bloom continuously pink throughout Springtime. I just returned from gardening.~

@DianneN it's nice that you stay in touch with your students and coworkers. I keep in touch with a few of my coworkers but we have a FB group that keeps us all updated. It's nice to see who's gotten married, babies etc.

I walk, I paint, I take care of the garden, I sit under our porch to read a book. This is the joy not to have to look at your watch.

I wish my mom had lived long enough to retire. She loved teaching, but I think she and my dad would have liked to travel more than they got to.

Retirement is something I look forward to. I love writing, playing my guitar, working in the yard, traveling...so there is always something I can find to do. I save incessantly and invest as wisely as I can. Someone asked me once, "What are you saving for? Don't you want to spend the money?" To which I replied simply, "I want to HAVE the money so I can have it work for me instead of me working for it."

You are very wise to save and invest. That's exactly what we've done and are making more in retirement than we did working! We instilled that common sense in our two sons and are so happy they took our advice.

Those are beautiful flowers in our photo. I gave up working at the prime of my career and you are so right. There is so much we can do that we want to do when 'work' does not come in our way

For 4mos, I do not have a job. My former colleagues visited me last March and inquired about my typical day. Well, they told me it is a boring life but the end they admitted that they are envious of me.

@wiLLmaH It's difficult to study and have a career at the same time. If your husband doesn't mind, why not? That way you can concentrate on your studies. Best of luck to you and keep in touch!

I have been looking forward to retiring early and living a free life. Although it is very happy to be with students at school, it is also very tired and there is not much free time. So I am very eager for freedom.

By the time I've finished work, gone to the gym, eaten and taken the dog for a walk there isn't much free time to be had. After Christmas 2019 I will be in the same position as you. Although i suspect I might swerve the mani/pedis and the facials
