For those of you that live in hot climates when do you put your air or fans on?

We usually have hot summers but this year so far we have gone from winter to very hot weather and not sure it will go back again. This is very weird for us. We usually end winter and then in May spring comes and then summer. I am not putting on our fans till we absolutely need them.

Hi Hanni. The fans are open most of the day, or at least when we are home.

I don’t live in a hot climate, wish I did and most of the time I probably still would use just my fans mostly. If it got too hot or at night I would turn the A/C on snd close the windows.

@dfollin Yes, I understand that. I grew up in Minneapolis and the winters seemed like they were forever. Here in Jerusalem it is both cold inside and outside.

I am used to electric fans. Hubby and I had one each by the foot part of our bed, to make us comfortable and cool because we don't have airconditioner since it uses a lot of electricity.. We each have them in steady mode. Hubby likes it in a light number 1 but I like mine in a strong number or number 2. When I stay overnight at my mother's room on Saturdays, it has an air-condition. Usually, when it is just starting, I still would switch on the electric fan. That's how hot I feel when it's summer.

Usually, I avoid them and just keep doors/windows open and have a few ceiling fans on to circulate the air. This year, we have the AC on. Not sure what, but I have two kids reacting bad to the seasonal allergy stuff. :(

Living in the tropics, Oahu can get hot... today 86 degrees. I've found drinking water helps keep your body cooler, so I drink lots of water. During the night I've a fan in my room that I relax with unless it's cool enough to turn it off.

@Hannihar No snow where I live, but rain is usual, light drizzles sometimes storms. Mostly drier sunny weather. Like now it's drizzling lightly, so I'm home mylotting.

I dont have a fan but I have air ventilation. I also have a balcony which I keep the door open on hot days. My apartment faces East and I get the early morning sunshine, but when the sun goes overhead, I dont see it for the rest of the day. That makes my place really cool during the summer.

I don't use my air conditioning because it is too expensive. I use fans when I gets hot and it is reasonable with the air circulating. At night I open my bedroom window and turn a fan on high sitting on the window ledge to bring in the cool night air.

I will turn on the air conditioner when it is very hot. If it's not too hot, I'd rather not turn on the air conditioner and keep the room ventilated.

@anamika161088 I can see why. In the winter I keep one heater on for my cat and in the summer if it does come this year I will leave a fan on for my cat if I am not home.
