I think it was Sesame Street where I saw it growing up (don't hold me to that, I might be wrong). It was a clip about translation and someone was speaking on and on and on in an incomprehensible language but when it was translated, it was just like one word, like "yes" or two words "I am". It was hilarious. Probably moreso for me because that was how I spoke. I clutter a lot of words together to make a sentence, but when you take the fillers out, it might just be one or two words: "yes" or "I am". When I grew up, I learned that I had a speech impediment. I belong to the class of people known as clutterers. Yes, that is a thing. According to the Stuttering Foundation, "Cluttering is a fluency disorder (that) involves excessive breaks in the normal flow of speech that seem to result from disorganized speech planning, talking too fast or in spurts, or simply being unsure of what one wants to say. By contrast, the person who stutters typically knows exactly what he or she wants to say but is temporarily unable to say it." Yep. Cluttering is a speech impediment, pretty much like stuttering or the lisp, and it could make it pretty difficult to string a proper comprehensible sentence together. Not a fun feature for a storyteller, right? I try to manage it. What about you guys? Anybody with speech issues here on myLot? Or are you all clear and articulate speakers out there?

I didn't know cluttering was a recognised speech disorder if that's the right word. I know dozens of people say 'you know' or 'like' every few words and that gets very annoying too.

Makes conversation awkward, doesn't it? For me, I have to always respond to these facial cues, usually people looking extremely confused because they can make neither head nor tail from a thing I said.
