Do you keep extra batteries around?

During a recent gig, I discovered that my Larrivee D-03E's battery was dead. My Larrivee D-03E is my back-up gigging guitar (a nice $600 acoustic/electric guitar), and I had decided to use it after my band mate had knocked over my $4000 Collings OM-1 at a previous gig. She is a klutz, and also does not respect others' instruments. The battery in my Larrivee D-03E was dead at that one gig, so I had to play acoustic, through a microphone, and it was a bit of an inconvenience. After that gig, I went to Home Depot and bought a four-pack of 9 volt batteries, so I'll have back-up batteries for any amplified gig where I am using my Larrivee, my Collings, or my Ibanez bass. Do you keep extra batteries around your house? They could prove important if you had a blackout and didn't know that the batteries in your flashlights or radio were almost dead. I learned my lesson.

I do indeed. I have remotes!! I also have a battery-operated mouse for my laptop that seems to go through battery power about every 4-6 weeks (sheesh, you'd think I was sitting there, playing Bejeweled Blitz on Facebook or something! ). The one thing I don't have is the 9-volt: I have sealed smoke alarms now, with "ten year lithium batteries" that you don't have to replace, so I don't have a need for the 9-volts. But I remember when they powered my transistor radio!!!

@TheHorse -- I remember the 9-volts because of the goofy connections and how you had to "plug it in." Those were the days.

Heh. I remember my transistor radios (mostly from Summer camp--we'd listen to pop music on WLS out of Chicago), but I can't remember what kinds of batteries powered them.

I have extra batteries around particularly for my PC mice because I use those a lot and have to change batteries just at such moments like starting or finishing posting and no mouse.

Musical instruments seem to like 9V batteries. Most of my flashlight take AA or AAA.

Yes, we have double and triple A batteries, which are the most often used. I have a flashlight that can be hand cranked, but you know, I cannot feature a hand cranked guitar.

You don`t know about me, After the power was out for days I stockpiled batteries and got a solar kit with 2 batteries. Freight Harbor had coupons for free batteries with purchase, I bought a .99 paint brush and got 24 pack AA free, did that deal more than once, I have several 100 batteries

We keep double A’s but that’s it. After Hurricane Sandy everyone wanted AA batteries and firewood.

We do. We usually have a good number of batteries around, as we get the packs from Costco. It seems like the kids are always needing new AA batteries for something, but we usually have AAA and D batteries on hand too.

Normally we do but when someone uses the last of one kind and doesn't inform the other person or bother buying more it's been fun. Usually out stops me from using my mouse at my computer. How have you been?

Also, if you have any child below the age of 10, batteries are essential. I should have shares in Energizer by now :)

Yip, here we have what we call loadshedding, especially in winter where whole areas are without power for anything from an hour to four hours. Most people have generators or some other backup plan
