New road signs we've only seen in Tasmania

We’ve seen some ‘different’ road signs since we’ve been touring in Tasmania. The fairy penguins are a tourist drawcard but I don’t know if we’ll get to see them. There is even a town called Penguin. The penguins apparently come ashore each evening and you can watch them waddle up from the sea to their nests in the rocks and sand-dunes.
The other sign is of a platypus, one of only two egg-laying mammals in the world. The other is the echidna which is also only found in Australia.
The platypus is also known as the duck-billed platypus because of the shape of its bill which is covered in electro-sensors. They are semi-aquatic and have a spur on the ankle but only the males’ contains venom. Hopefully we might get to a wildlife park where we’ll be able to see a platypus.

This post has the signs. That's like deer signs in the US.

@judyev The duck-billed platypus haunted my childhood even though I lived in Africa and there were any amount of other creatures to occupy my thoughts. For some reason a picture of a platypus popped up all over the place. Never saw one when I made it to Australia.

It would be really cool to see a platypus. The males are venomous?

Good thing the signs do not depict crocodiles, Ms. Judy hehehehe! Those are uncommon indeed. Usually the signs would warn about sheep or cattle :)

Yes, sheep and cattle are the obvious ones. I have a photo of a sign warning of camels somewhere but can't find it.

@sunrisefan I would really, really, REALLY hate to hit a camel in a car!

@peachpurple No, you can see them in the wild but they are very shy.

I'm beginning to think I should try to see the penguins. You can join an organised group if you want to but of course it costs. I think there are places where you can watch for free too.

To see those creatures in real life would be awesome.

I'd love to see both but it wouldn't be hard to organise to join a group to see the penguins. To see a platypus in the wild would be a huge stroke of luck.

It surprises me why the comment I made on this post vanished. However the "like"is still there.

I'm glad you commented here so I could say 'sorry'. Somehow or other I posted the discussion three times so I deleted two of them, one of which had your first comment. I'm not sure how it happened. I think the photo was too large first time around and it posted without the photo.

I haven't seen a deer sign yet. The kangaroos are dangerous enough.
