"US government health officials on Thursday said the nation's suicides had risen by 30% since 1999, and that the crisis was a growing problem. Nearly 45,000 Americans took their own lives in 2016." BBC
That is 123 suicides every single day in the USA alone!
Apparently there have been some studies that have shown that for every death that occurred by suicide, there have been 200 people have attempted to commit suicide, and about 400 other people that have thought about committing suicide.
What is going on? What is changing?
Why do you think there are so many suicides? Have you known anyone that has committed suicide? Why does one commit suicide?
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Here are 4 good reasons why one should not commit suicide!
1) Things can change and they do!
2) There is help available no matter what you are going through!
3) There is hope no matter how hopeless things may seem!
4) There are those that love you no matter what!

Who knows what demons others are fighting that do not appear evident on the surface? It is sad that some people need to take this way out, but for them it may be the only way. How we can help them is not to judge them. They are the ones who must face these regrets.

Hi Felix. Sadly, many people forget those. They go to the darkness and never sought the light.

That is sad! Maybe it should be part of the school education or parents should be reminded to give their children life-saving information.

@1hopefulman Possible but everything should start at home instead. But sadly, even the home is not a place where one can feel safe and secured.

I am glad there is help available but the person has to know for sure how to reach the one that wants to end their life and save them.

It really helps to pray to God for wisdom and help and strength, and keep thinking of the Kingdom that we can look forward to..Daniel 2:44 and Revelation 21:3-5

Sadly, not everyone feels the love..and not everyone is loved at least in a way they understand. Some people have a spiritual belief and others don't. I believe we need God however we understand him in our lives..but it is hard for some people to get there especially if they were not raised that way.

That is true and that's why society can do more to spread positive messages that there is help available to deal with difficulties.

That is really so sad and tragic to think about it.
I think its because people live in a virtual world and they are no longer really connected with people in the real world. Just yesterday, an awesome person I know from facebook (not from local, but a shared hobby) had someone take a picture of her, post it to facebook to insult her.
Seriously? Why do people feel the need to live a cruel life by degrading others? If a person has nothing nice to say, why not shut up and do some self reflection to maybe find goodness in themself to be able to spread that? why live and thrive on spreading hate?
I was shocked to see some internet kid had 2 million followers and why? because he plays jokes by feeding homeless people sandwiches with poop in them. yes, literally poop. he records making them and giving them out.
That's whats wrong with people.
Thats why people are killing them self. they just don't have the connections to family, friends, church, the community anymore...
we are living in a world where likes online mater and people don't make any effort to wave to strangers they pass!

There is no doubt that we are living in very critical times and some people can be cruel. So, it is good to learn positive ways to deal with these situations.

I think the biggest problem is that people with mental illnesses don't think rational. The tips in your post are very good, but it is hard to think of when someone struggles with a mental problem.
