Lights On Or Lights Off?

United States
June 10, 2018 10:43pm CST
I am in bed now, the house is dark, the only light is the one from my phone. I just began to think about how this house is pitch black. When home I keep a light on at night, so how many sleep with no lights on, and how many sleep with a light on. Being in place with no lights is sort of spooky to me.

I sleep in the dark, no night light. I used to sleep with a night light but I prefer darkness. Outside there are lights around the house though.

@popciclecold I like the lights off during the week and the only light I have on in the house if my air purifier. On our Sabbath we are not allowed to turn lights on and off so turn on the lights before light my candles for our Sabbath to start.

@popciclecold What have you never heard before? I have an air purifier that lights up and so I know it works. Religious Jews do not turn off and on lights on our Sabbath. That is why we warm things up on light a hot plate. We plug it into the electricity before we light our candles for our Sabbath to begin.

I have two strings of christmas lights that I use as "night light". I used to use it solely as a "turning the lamp off and getting ready for bed" light source. Now I use it as a light source for when it starts to get dark out because my lamp doesnt' work and the overhead light is too bright and makes the room too hot. The light is completely off as soon as I get into bed for sleep.

Well, that is good, in country no lights hardly so it's super dark.

@popciclecold I live in a suburb but I have lived in the country. We had no source of outside light from our bedroom. There was a street lamp in our back yard of all places. I'm not quite sure what it was doing there. I can look out my window here and see a street lamp.

I have to have lights on. We keep a light on in the kitchen in case either of us go out there and I sleep with my TV on.

You can buy a small night light with motion sensor or led strip light, these can save electricity and more convenient

I live in a suburb of a city so I get the light of the street lamp shining through the window. It is comforting.

@popciclecold You are fortunate to be able to receive the light of the moon as well as the stars. I know it doesnt help with the inside lighting, but I would give anything for a night view like that.

At night, I keep a lamp on in my living room because I know the light can be seen through my blinds. I prefer potential thieves or killers thinking someone is up and around.

When it's evening and I am in the kitchen, dining and receiving, I like the lights brightly lighted. Also in the bedroom, when I am doing something I like the bright lights lighted. However, when I and my hubby is already resting in bed, we have his side of the bed's lampshade lighted only. That way, we can get sleepy at the soonest and it's romantic.

Wow. that a thought, because where I use light, is not close to my bed. Thanks for sharing.

@popciclecold The lampshades each beside our beds. We use it when we are reading from our side of the bed.

I want a dark room to sleep, no lights at all. I keep the shutters closed in my bedroom, but the shutters of the other windows let a little light come inside.

@popciclecold I always close the shutters of the bedroom windows. I do not fully close the shutters of the corridor and the bathroom, so I do not need to turn the lights on when I need to get up during the night.

I have small nightlights in various places around the house. Pitch black would be disorienting to me.

I like to have the lights off..even a small amount of light has the potential to keep me aawake. The only light I have comes from my clock, and even that is a bit too much light.

I can't fall asleep even if a little light, so no light for me is better
