How Many Meds Do You Take?

Working for Merck Pharmaceuticals, I learned a lot of things. One of which was because of all the side effects caused by one med can lead to the taking of another med; and then another one, and another one......... The AMA did some studies on 200 different medications and found that 38% of adults taking meds like Prednisone (steroid), Acid Reflux meds and Ibuprofen (to name 3) caused depression and suicide. I realize that some meds are of a necessity; however, a lot of them aren't. We live in a pill-popping society where instead of using some common sense, it's easier to just pop a pill. Well you can bet the pharmaceutical companies just love you. And the doctors too considering they get a kick-back for every med they write a script for. How do you think the Opioid problem got started. So instead of popping a pill, research other methods of treatment; as there are plenty of them available.
One-third of adults in the U.S. may be unwittingly taking prescription drugs linked to depression and suicide, according to a new study.

This is a major issue. There are specialists in every discipline. What one prescribes can counter with that of others but they are not cross-checked. Agree, the doctors themselves are influenced by pharmaceutical companies. I try my best to avoid medicines and vitamin supplements - siva

Absolutely @Shiva49 . There are too many natural approaches that do NOT have side effects.

I can`t take Ibuprofen, it shuts down my kidneys, I cant take Prednisone because is causes blood sugar to spike to dangerous levels. But I do take Zantac if I need it, which is not often. For a couple years I have used natural stuff I find in my own woods to help with things that occur. I been knowing about the doctor kick backs for 30 years, My step mother worked for a doctor, he often got free trips. I take 2 a day. One hormone and it keeps me sane, one metformin that I am slowly coming off of.

If you're using the Zantac for heartburn, there is a natural way. A cup of water with a tablespoon of Apple Cider Vinegar and a few drops of Honey @andriaperry . Acid Reflux is not enough acid in the stomach; not having too much acid. You can do that before, during or after meals and even at bedtime; depending on when you experience it the most.

So this was what I was wondering about those medications. One of the effects can lead to depression. I do not drink any medications except my collagen and vitamins.

@mlgen1037 I do. I use to have my own organic farm on my property but with my severe spinal problems, I had to quit doing it. It makes me mad too that it costs more in the stores to buy organic. Why when there are less ingredients in them than all the processed foods.

I take one prescription pill for my osteoporosis. I was on six different pills at one time, but thankfully they've all been taken off my regimen with only Alendronate left - once a week, and a supplement Vitamin D that I need to take daily. The other is Remicade, but it's injection and only once every 8 weeks.

Yeah, my osteoporosis is so bad. The Bone Density doctor said the only thing holding me vertical is the muscles that run down either side of the spine. So I'm stuck with Fosamax and Vitamin D too. It's great that you've gotten off of all the others @just4him .

You may want to talk to a pharmacist about which meds you can consider getting rid of @NJChicaa . Using natural herbs might be the better way to go for some of those. Or even a change in the food you eat.

@nanette64 I eat a healthy diet and work out regularly. I trust pharmaceuticals more than herbs to treat the conditions I have. I have been able to eliminate one medication and cut the dosage on another, but I’m not going to get rid of stuff just because big pharmacy has such a bad rep these days. I need them to control my health.

Yes, many times the side effects can be just as bad as the disease your taking the medicine for or so it seems. I take acid reflux meds and without them I could develop pre-cancerous esophageal cancer. I don't think they depress me although circumstances in my life certainly can. Given the alternative, cancer, I'll take the meds and risk the depression. And I've been scoped three times and would prefer not to go for a fourth.

Oh owiee @dgobucks226 . Have you tried the alternative. 1 cup of water with a tablespoon of Apple Cider Vinegar and a few drops of Honey? Most acid reflux is caused by not enough acid in the stomach; which means that every time you swallow some food, it drops down and splooshes what acid you do have up the windpipe. Plus there's not enough acid in the stomach to break down the food; so chewing thoroughly really helps too. The vinegar helps to break up the food and the honey is a natural soothing agent.

@dgobucks226 That's where the Honey helps (taste). Trying not to eat after 6 pm helps too.

Right now I am happy to report I only take medication for high blood pressure. I am a young 45, so it is probably inevitable doctors will see fit to find other ailments to medicate me with. But it IS a racket.

So totally agree with you! Alongside all those mentioned, addiction is another bad one. I am studying holistic medicine and it breaks my heart that people turn their noses at it (most don't even know what it is) and say that it's a scam, treatments don't work or take too long. I wish there was a way to educate people. But they are blinded by those who want to rare us out

And these idiots don't realize; just what the hell do they think people took before pharmaceutical companies came along!!!!!!!! Natural Herbs and specific foods. And there were NO side effects. People have just become so blind and think their doctors walk on water @Anaeu92 . Not to mention the fact that 'processed foods' are deadly. Chemicals, pesticides, hormones, steroids, antibiotics. These additives and some you can't even pronounce are what is causing all of today's maladies.
