Snug in Snug, Tasmania

You might think I’ve made an error with the title but I’ve made sure I wrote what I wanted to. We’re in a caravan park in a very pretty little town called ‘Snug’. It’s on one of the many bays which occur on the east coast of Tasmania and apparently got its name from its ‘snug and agreeable seclusion’. I’d have to agree with that description. I’ve been able to get caught up with the laundry and we’ve already had some oysters as an entrée. They have a great butcher’s shop here. We could have had a mutton bird or a kangaroo tail for tea but we’ve settled for a roast beef. We also have internet access and heating so all is very right with our world at the moment. The photo is of the view from our friend’s house where we parked the caravan for several nights. They have a magnificent view over Hobart but in the middle of the photo you might be able to see their chooks (chickens) which are roosting for the night on top of a big shrub.

Interesting name for a city. Lovely picture, and yes, I see the chickens. You eat kangaroos?

@just4him Yes, they do. Some licensed to hunt them for pet meat too.

I have eaten kangaroo but the flavour is quite strong so I don't order it now. It isn't available everywhere.

They have a very pretty location but it is a steep climb up to the house.

@mlgen1037 We had to tow the caravan up a steep slope but really it wasn't any trouble.

@JudyEv Yes, I agree. But one should be careful when you climb to the house.

Before reading your post, I was wondering if what I was seeing in the photo were chickens, well they are. This is a beautiful quiet place.

@LadyDuck She should have stayed in the kitchen and not gone through into the lounge.

The rooster is very handsome. One of the hens came in the house while we were there and had to be shooed out.

That is an amazing view you had right there. A kangaroo tail for breakfast?

We could have bought a kangaroo tail for tea last night but settled instead for a roast of beef.

Tasmania has the funniest place names that are quite hard to believe. You Aussies rule!

I saw signs for Break-Me-Neck Hill and Bust-Me-Gut Hill but wasn't quick enough to get photos. We also saw signs to Jericho and crossed the Jordan River yesterday. You've found some beauties here.

I noticed the chickens in the bush right away. It made me giggle seeing them perch on a bush that way. People eat kangaroos tails? I like the name snug for a town it sounds quaint and like a place you'd want to call home!

Apparently they sleep there every night. Luckily they don't seem to have a problem with foxes.

@judyev Now that's the kind of town that I like - secluded and agreeable. You seem to be living the life.

Some of the caravan parks are really idyllic. There are almost always a heap of permanents too.
