What are your favorite proverbs?

I'm not talking about the "Book of Proverbs" in the bible, I mean proverbs in general. Chinese, Hindu, Tibetan, Buddhist, and/or biblical...etc. Those tidbits of wisdom that you can find comfort in or use as a GPS in life. Is there one or a few that you live your life by? A few of my faves are; "Tension is who you think you should be. Relaxation is who you are." -Chinese Proverb "Flattery is alright as long as you don't inhale." There are many others that I can resonate to. Tell me some of yours. I want to know your wisdom.

It is better to light one small candle than to curse the darkness. Apparently Confucious.

I had came across a few phases that I like even through they are not your traditional proverbs. 1. Life dealt a hand of cards to you the moment you are born, it is not what you received that determine whether you are successful in life but how you play the hand that determine it. 2. Fail to plan, you plan to fail.

What readily comes to my mind are: This too shall pass Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. Where there is love there is life. Be the change that you want to see in the world. I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character." Quote 3 and 4 are attributed to Gandhi while the fifth to Martin Luther King - siva

Truly even in silence, a lot have been said... It's the action that speaks... No more needed to be said...

The one major one that I try to live my life by is: Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

I like the integrity one posted by louise. But I also like you can't get respect if you don't give respect. And there are many more.
