I haven't been wasting my time

We left home on May 10, taking our car and caravan across Australia then catching a ferry down to Tasmania. Next Monday we’ll catch the ferry back to Melbourne then start the journey back towards the west. We’ve had an interesting time and seen some wonderful sights but I have also done some ‘work’ along the way.
I bought some cheap wool at a discount store and have been making beanies for children Vince will take them to Nepal in October to hand out to village children along with some clothing that he’ll take over. I bought a few more balls at a thrift shop today and will have at least 20 beanies made by the time we get back home. I still have all the ends to sew in but that will only take me an evening.

That is wonderful. Another place that they are appreciated is cancer treatment sites. Women especially like them when the hair starts falling out. I have thought of doing that this winter and donating in Moms name, but I need to get a lot better at knitting first.

@JudyEv Yes Mom crocheted but I never got the hang of it too good. Have been learning slowly to knit some. Mostly cheating and using looms.

@wolfgirl569 I don't have a loom but they look pretty interesting. I'm tempted to get one.

These are crocheted which 'grows' a lot quicker than knitting.

It's surprising how quickly the numbers mount up.

@JudyEv You remind me of someone that I was close to once that would do these kind of things without even having to look. She would do shawls and they were so beautiful that some of her friends still have and wear them decades later.

Time well spent and that too for a cause. More power to you.

@JudyEv I am no good at anything that involves a needle. I started knitting a sweater for my mother and I got rid of it after years of hibernation. It was half knitted.

@allknowing There are many people who have half-knitted jumpers in the backs of cupboards so you're not alone in that.

Nice! I wish I can do that and make good use of time when just waiting around. But crochet doesn't seem to like me. When I tried it before, it would be ok at first but will eventually look bad and loose. I must have been doing something wrong. Knitting liked me better, but 1 needle seems better and more manageable than 2 needles when waiting in line somewhere. Hehehe.

How brilliant what a super idea. Killing so many birds with one stone. Keeping you occupied and helping others all at the same time. So talented!

@JudyEv This is wonderful of him. The beanies will also do a lot of good for those babies. Great work!

Some of the balls were variegated so they are a bit more interesting than straight colours.

@lnillerman I think the children will like nice bright ones the best.

If I have something to do, I don't get so impatient hanging around waiting here and there. I have a book of Sudoku puzzles too but the crochet is, as you say, productive.
