Unfair time off

United States

Hello to all! So I recently got suspended from my job for a few days plus the days I am originally off. Not at all happy since I'm losing out on money I need and it wasn't even my fault! These kids complained and complained even after a new server took over and my boss bought their meal for them. They basically got a free meal out of us and my boss blames me and claims I have been "rude" before. I have been doing this for OVER 10 years and I get many many compliments, but I guess one complaint overrides all of the good words about me over the years. During this unexpected time off, I have been applying to places hoping someone calls me in for an interview because I am seriously over it.... But I also am scared to really start over. I know it's probably time, but I am still scared none the less. I am staying at my job just so I have an income even though many people got hours cut because of the summer (sucks but it happens sadly.) Anybody else ever had this happen to them and feel they were treated unfairly? Maybe I am just over reacting and need to cool off? When is the breaking point?

It sounds as if you need to find somewhere else. I haven't had the same experience as you, but I have had similar. I worked for a grocery store for six years and the last three years? Constant hours cut and sometimes only working once a week. I was the hardest worker on the team sometimes and yet that didn't seem to matter.

Depending on the management, we are just bodies to them, seniority or not.

@DanieGirl80587 It seems more and more managers are just greedy and selfish. The place I last worked? The one I had been at for six years? The head manager of that place had a heart attack (most likely because of the stress) but he still kept in contact with the store daily while he recovered. Stupidity really.

@ScribbledAdNauseum Dam. But as the GM or hear admin, they can't just abandon their stores sadly. They are almost always on call even when off.

It's really unfair at all. How long is your suspension? Is it a week, with no pay, right?

Even working just for customers and not having a boss my husband has bent over backwards for people who will never be pleased. And I have had the same happen at times when I babysit. Some people just want something for nothing. I hope things work out for the best for you!

If mist customers enjoy your service, it seems the manager should have backed you up.

Hi Otakunerdychika. I am sorry this happened. They are all like that. You did them good and when you make just ONE mistake it is all over like your record is tarnished for life. I have been suspended for telling the truth about the people in my former company and they said I was sabotaging the company and co-employees when in fact they did not do anything apprehend my co-ofcmates. But the difference they are paying me to shut up.

I've never been suspended but I have been fired through no fault of my own. I suspected one of my coworkers of stealing my tips and reported him to our supervisor. Instead of doing an investigation, she fired me!

Wow! I am so sorry that happened to you. I would have gone to HR and went off! That has to be illegal right? Hmmm...

@DanieGirl80587 I was sort of happy in a way. I got off early that day and it opened me up to a higher paying position in another job.
