What would you do in this situation?

Yesterday I went to the dollar store to buy a bag of potato chips. I chose the ones I wanted and went to the cashier. When I tapped my debit card to pay for the item it came up "insufficient funds". I was just there a few days earlier and I purchased the same type of chips for only a dollar. These were two dollars! I thought I had enough in my bank account to cover it.
I still wanted a snack so I went back to the food aisle and was looking over other products that were less than two dollars and a woman came up to me and discreetly put 3 dollars in my hand.
It was a tad embarrassing for me, but I accepted her gift with much gratitude. I was then able to get the chips I wanted, but I felt embarrassed at the same time.
How would you feel in a situation like that? What would you do? Would you accept the money and thank the person or would you decline out of embarrassment?

I've done kind things like that for others so I believe it's coming back to me.

Do you mean pay it forward? I didn't know this woman and it is unlikely that I will ever see her again.

I can understand the embarrassment... but think on that, that her for doing this lovely thing toward you, she might be get good from another place... I believe in Karma. I'm glad good people left here and sorry for this experience.

I would accept her gift, and thank her for her kindness. I have been in the opposite situation. I was in a shop and the person in front me didn't have enough money. He only needed a small amount of money and I gave it to him.

I would probably say something along the lines of "Oh, I really couldn't. I will just get myself something cheaper."
That is a bit of an embarrassing situation so I really couldn't say what I'd do in the spur of the moment.

I would take it and thank her. Wanna know why? Because I have done nice things like that before myself, I was getting back what I had put out on the past.

I always have sufficient cash on hand just in case. I would decline.

I understand what you are saying. I would be embarrassed but that was very nice of her and she did it discreetly so I would thank her and ask her how I could repay her for her kindness.

If I accepted the money I would have asked for her address to return what I owed. I usually have cash on hand to pay for small purchases under $5 or $10 dollars. My thought here is there is no wrong or right way to handle the situation. People respond differently to kindness.

I usually pay it forward. "Do for others as I would like them to do for me."

It was kind of embarrassing if that person is a total stranger. First reaction, I would refuse but I don't want to hurt the person giving kindly so I'll accept and thank her.

That's what I did too. She can go home feeling that she made a difference and she did!

I will decline for sure but if the person giving the money to me is very persistent then I will accept it because refusing his/her help will be an insult already.

It just proves that kind people still walk this earth. You take it with a smile and plenty of thank you.
