Guess What Fell from the Sky!

I wanted to take some photos I needed for a blog post today, so I went to City Park to capture the flowers from the blooming magnolia trees I had seen Sunday as we drove by. I had walked most of the way around the park when I saw a tree across the street I wanted to capture.
I stepped into the street between two cars and was trying to focus my shot when I felt something hit my calf. Although I wasn't directly under a tree, I thought maybe the wind had carried something from a tree to hit my leg. When I looked down, I saw this little bird. Do you suppose it was learning to fly? It looks a bit big for a nestling.
I have no idea what kind of bird it is. Do you? Anyone want to make a tiny story in a comment that explains why this little bird might have hit me?
I wasn't sure what to do about the bird. It spread its tail and at one point looked as though it was trying to fly, but it stayed on the ground. I hope it didn't get run over. What would you have done if your next stop was the grocery store?

Were there any electric cables above? It could have hit one of the tension wires and got electrocuted. It happens here occasionally.

@bagarad Did you check if the bird was alive?

@allknowing I assume it was alive, since it was spreading its tail and flapping its wings and changing its position.

Wow, that is strange.. I would have taken it home with me.. tried to figure out what was wrong...
very very strange that it actually hit you.
We found a Crow last winter in a grocery store parking lot that couldn't fly.. we chased it and through a jacket over it and brought it home.. it appeared maybe it had sprained it's wing or something.. we fed it and kept it warm.. and it started flying around my roommates room.. we waited for a warm spring day and opened the 2nd floor window.. and she eventually flew out.

I really didn't know what to do. I wasn't going right home and it was too hot to leave a bird in the car. I did not have any kind of container that was appropriate for a bird. I'm wondering if it may have been flying into its reflection in the window of the car next to me and dazed itself.

I guess there are some things I will never find out.

it looks like that he is hurt.. maybe hit by something..
it is not a newborn bird learning to fly...
it is already a full grown bird but maybe he was hit by something that's why he fell...
it looks the same with our Philippine Maya bird also called as Eurasian Tree Sparrow.

Hi Barbara. Someone might have hit the bird?

Maybe, but no one was standing near me when this happened and I was between two cars parked with their fronts next to the curb. They were not parked parallel, so the cars were almost like walls around me and the bird. I was across the street from these businesses trying to photograph that magnolia tree to the right of the art studios. You can see how the cars are parked.

@bagarad Yes, I can see it. Thank you. But lucky the bird was not crashed by any car too. I wonder what could be the reason if no one hit him.

I would have tried to pick it up and move it off the road.

@bagarad It looks to be fully fledged. I doubt if "mom" has anything more to do with it.

@BarBaraPrz I think you may be right, but I can't think of a safe place nearby I could have moved it to.

I have no idea why he hit you but I do hope that the little guy/girl turned out alright in the end.

I think the bird was just born and is learning to fly. I have met such a bird before. Maybe it can fly in a few hours.

@bagarad Maybe the bird was learning and accidentally fell off while flying. Her mother doesn't know where she is.

I would have atleast tried to carry it to the safety of the grass. Whether it stayed there after I place it there is another question. I hope it was just stunned and flew away soon after.

I had heard it's not good to ouch the birds in case the mother was nearby waiting for me to leave so she could rescue it.

@bagarad I hadn't thought of that. I can't recall specifics but I feel like there is a species of animal out there more prone to abandon their child if a human interferes and helps in it's rescue.

I hope it got out of the street. I don't know birds, except for a few, and I know it's not a robin, cardinal, or blue jay. Those are the ones I know, and since it doesn't fall in those types, I'm clueless.
I'll need to think about a story for it.

It looks like a young sparrow that can't fly well and dropped from the tree through its carelessness. To avoid being run over, you might as well put it on somewhere far from the road and its parents could easily find it

Maybe the bird's wings got hurt that's why it can't able to fly and fell down
