After only ten minutes poolside , A mother and her young child were found drowned in a northern Ontario Resort Pool . There are no signs of foul play or the mother drowning her child or herself . So far it looks like an accident. Here is the question : There are signs all around this pool saying" Unsupervised Pool - Use At Own Risk " I'm sure most of you have been to Hotels with pools and there are no lifeguards or for that matter any one around while you are swimming Should a hotel be liable for any accidents as long as they post the proper signage??

Hi BusyBoss. I am sorry for what happened to the mother and son. And I think they should be liable if there are warning signs. It is not all the time the hotel staff are present to look after people. But I hope there is CCTV to see what really happened. Maybe there might be people around the time the mother and son were drowning.

I think at a minimum you are right that there should be cameras with monitors at the front desk . I'm not saying they should be monitored 24/7 but at least recorded so one can see what happened

@Luap1050 Yes, I agree with you on that. We will never know what really happened, unless there is a CCTV that can at least give us answers.

This is such a very sad news. I feel sorry for the mother and her child. I wonder what exactly had happened. Being very careful is always a must when going for a swim. I guess the child was drowned and the mother tried to rescue his child and drowned herself as well knowing she herself doesn't know how to swim. - - I could only imagine.

A tragic incident for both mom and child. So sad. I think the hotel should still be liable and have posted someone to check the pool once in a while.

It is a sad story to read. I personally think that there are some employees who need to supervise the pool area at all times.

@Luap1050 I understand that but shouldn't there have been a life guard. That is unfortunate. Maybe the child wanted to go in so bad that she did not care if there was someone to watch them or not and the mother tried to tell her that they had to wait. Maybe they both were not good swimmers that it happened. I could say all day maybe. There was a sign and they should not have gone it. I wonder what will happen with this?

That is very sad. A mother and child. I can't even think of the pain the family is dealing right now. May their soul rest in peace.

In the old days they did not have cameras everywhere,so i tend to think the adult should be responsible enough to know what they are doing.if they have a medical issue they should tell someone beforehand and not be there alone.

I don't think the hotel should be at fault as there was signing up to swim at your own risk. The mother shouldn't have taken the child to the pool if she was able to watch him and know how to swim herself. The child should have at least had some of the swimming things on his arms.
